We recently connected with Adriana Lopez and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Adriana with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from my mom. When we immigrated to the United States, we had to rebuild our entire life from scratch. As a single parent, she worked incredibly hard to give my sister and me every opportunity she could. At ten years old, I started going to work with her while she cleaned houses, and that’s where I learned some of the most important lessons I still carry today.
My mom was excellent at what she did because details mattered to her. She always told me, ‘If you’re going to do something, do it right.’ She took pride in her work, and she taught me to pay attention, go the extra mile, and leave things better than you found them.
She also taught me how important trust is. Her clients trusted her with their homes and their most meaningful belongings, and she never took that responsibility lightly. Watching her showed me that skill will open doors, but trust and integrity help you stay in the room. That foundation is the reason I work the way I do today.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a DIY content creator who teaches homeowners – especially women and moms – that they’re more capable than they think. Through my brand, Texas DIY Mama, I break down home projects in a way that feels approachable, empowering, and real. I share everything from remodels and woodworking to simple fixes you can do in an afternoon, because I want people to feel confident taking care of their homes.
What excites me most is seeing someone say, ‘I tried this because of you.’ Growing up, I didn’t always see women who looked like me represented in this space, so it means a lot to know that my work helps change that. I love being able to blend storytelling, education, and culture into my content – whether it’s a big project, a quick tip, or a reel that makes you feel seen.
At the end of the day, my goal is simple: to create content that empowers, teaches, and connects. My brand isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing the process, learning as you go, and building a home and a life you’re proud of.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three things that made the biggest impact on my journey: curiosity, consistency, and community.
First, curiosity. I’ve always been someone who asks questions and isn’t afraid to figure things out. That curiosity is what pushed me to pick up tools, fix things around the house, and learn new skills long before I ever shared any of it online. My advice to anyone starting out is simple: don’t wait to ‘know it all.’ Start with what you do know, and let curiosity lead you to the next step.
Second, consistency. Nothing in my journey happened overnight. My projects got better because I kept trying. My content grew because I kept showing up, even when only a handful of people were watching. If you’re early in your journey, give yourself permission to take imperfect action. The more you create, the better you get and the clearer your voice becomes.
And finally, community. I wouldn’t be where I am without the people around me – my audience, other creators, and the brands that trust my vision. Community gives you support, inspiration, and accountability. If you’re just starting, focus on building real relationships. Comment back. Show up for others. Share what you’re learning. The connections you make genuinely matter.
All three of these – curiosity, consistency, and community – have shaped every part of my journey. And the good news is that anyone can learn them. You just have to start.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Overwhelm is real, especially as a mom but honestly, anyone can experience it at any point in life. My faith plays a big role in how I navigate those moments. When I start to feel pulled in too many directions, I pause, take a breath, and remind myself that this season, this feeling, is temporary. This too shall pass.
I also ground myself by breaking things down into one task at a time. I can’t do everything all at once, and I don’t need to. I focus on what I can control and trust God with the rest. That shift in perspective gives me peace, keeps me present, and helps me move forward with clarity instead of pressure.
