Meet Adriel Joy Thurston

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Adriel Joy Thurston a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Adriel Joy, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

I keep my creativity alive by surrounding myself with people who push me forward and inspire new perspectives. I absolutely love learning—there’s always something more to discover—and I read constantly (understatement!). Nature also plays a huge role for me. Whether I’m hiking or spending time at the beach, it’s where I recharge and find fresh ideas. Being in those spaces lets my mind wander freely, which often leads to unexpected bursts of creativity.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’ve been in marketing for almost 20 years, and in that time, I’ve had the privilege of bringing my unique style and talents an array of clients. Whether it’s shining a light on incredible companies and organizations or working with nonprofits and supporting relief efforts for natural disasters, I’ve always loved how marketing can take you anywhere. Recently, I’ve expanded into public relations, turning my network and talents into a way to help even more people. I’ve become a professional cheerleader of sorts, and I’m so excited about my newest venture—signing on a chef who’s competing in the World Food Competition this year!

What excites me most about what I do is the ability to tell stories that resonate and make an impact. It’s not just about promoting a product or a service; it’s about connecting with people on a deeper level and helping their vision come to life. I’ve always believed that marketing isn’t just about transactions—it’s about creating relationships and building communities.

I’m constantly looking for new ways to grow and learn, and with this recent PR adventure, I’m excited to see where it takes me. Keep an eye out for more collaborations and projects as I continue to expand my reach and help more people share their amazing stories with the world!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that have had the biggest impact on my journey are empathy, communication, and determination. Empathy allows you to truly put yourself in someone else’s shoes, which makes all the difference in how you connect and work with others. Communication is key—it’s about being clear, honest, and open, and ensuring your clients and collaborators feel heard. And determination is what pushes you through the challenges and setbacks, making sure you stay focused on your goals no matter what.

My advice? Be honest, and when you make mistakes—because you will—own them. Don’t run from them. They’re just as much a part of your growth as your successes. Put yourself in other people’s shoes and you’ll find a deeper connection, which will lead to much more success. Their stories matter just as much as yours, and your clients will always want to feel heard. And above all, don’t let anyone else determine your value. Believe in yourself, turn your dreams into goals, and don’t let what anyone else thinks stand in your way. Your journey is yours to shape.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Absolutely, I’m always looking for new people to partner and grow with. I thrive on working with diamonds in the rough who just need an assist—that’s my jam. I love that stuff. From social media, marketing, consulting, public relations, coaching, and copywriting, I’ve put in the work to build myself up from nothing, learning every step of the way so I can help others avoid the same mistakes. My goal is to give people a leg up as they push their companies, products, and dreams forward.

If you’re someone who’s ready to grow and could use someone in your corner to help make that happen, I’d love to connect. Feel free to email me at ajoy@adrielthejoy.com, and let’s see how we can collaborate!
