We were lucky to catch up with AG ORLOZ recently and have shared our conversation below.
AG, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
Thank you very much for such a pleasant interview. The sense of generosity comes from my beloved parents and the personal spiritual lessons I have learned in my life.
Since 2007, I have had the opportunity to contribute to many emergent artists, some of them having an impact on Broadway, reality shows, Miss Universe international pageant, national television, and international festivals.
Not only have I made them part of my projects, but I have also supported them in the media through interviews and reviews: all, without any remuneration beyond the joy of supporting their careers and dreams.
When I see someone’s potential, I have to tell them immediately. I even serve as a guide, if necessary. My greatest reward is seeing David sculpted in the lives of each of them and all of this returns to my life in unsuspected ways.
I am fascinated by talking about people’s strengths and always praising their positive outcomes. Definitely, my parents are the true example of unconditional love, true acceptance, and generosity, without measures. The grace of God, the Angels, la Virgen Guadalupana, and Jesus inspire me to grow and be constant in my mission: it has to be a continuum that intertwines the spiritual and the earthly existence.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
In this stage of my life, I am enjoying the indescribable gifts of art and creativity. I have the wonderful opportunity and responsibility of making independent films and performing leading roles: I really love the true meaning and art/science of storytelling and the possibility of creating a culture of peace through stories with purpose. I have studied a lot: psychology, communications, creative writing, sciences, and politics, with formal courses or degrees. Now is my time to combine all in what I like and create new sidewalks.
For example, I have decided to elaborate meaningul stories of marginalized communities or about situations of stigma, because that is precisely where true love emerges. Not from the theory or as a redundant discourse without actions: you have to put yourself in the shoes of the discomfort of those who are not accepted by society in order to understand the true meaning of the love that comes from the Firmament. This is the greatest contribution of art and it humanizes: in the case of the Seventh Art, the blessings of being another being without any judgment.
For all these reasons and other ones that we can discuss in a long conversation -summed to my experience as a professor of drama, communications, education, and psychology at the University level- I decided to be an actor and filmmaker.
Precisely, Seventh Art with purpose can produce a healing power at a higher level of impact than the intimate space of a psychologist’s office, for example. Films with good stories can impact thousands of lives and the benefits can be infinite. Ask doctors and psychologists about what they experienced in the confinement: the connection with our loved ones without seeing each other and the opportunity of identifying ourselves with different stories through movie platforms created a new perspective of the true meaning of life and its representation.
Definitely, I prefer to leave a legacy in a post-pandemic World that may cause a huge impact on the collective: I enjoy the process of combining my passion in arts and sciences with an ulterior purpose.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Beyond talking about qualities, I would focus on what every budding artist should aspire to: find their own voice and their path, and then, make that everything happen. You have to be able to transform the World with your creations, your legacy: by using your colors.
Discover your inner voice and personal call first, and the qualities (your qualities) will be discovered along the way: I promise. It is my advice to new talents.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Recently, I saw the animated film The Inventor, about da Vinci’s legacy and life. Precisely, as part of the creative process inherent to the publication of my second book Sinapsis Creativa: CREATE.YOUR.UNIVERSE, I had the opportunity to research his contributions and biography. Definitely, a great dream would be to work with the production team of this beautiful movie, The Inventor (Ben Stranahan, Phil Viardo, and Rob McGillivray, among other creatives that I recently discovered through the movie). I see that the animated film has immense potential for Cannes and the Oscars and I have let its directors know this through my social media. I will be the first one to celebrate such a wonderful achievement.
When I see a movie with the potential to change lives in an exponential way, I totally relate. The same thing happened to me with Radical (Eugenio Derbez) because it reminds me the style of teaching I promoted at the University, for years, and I can also mention the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding III (Nia Vardalos), which presents the essential values that should prevail in a beautiful family that coexists without any sense of discrimination, summed to the immeasurable power of exploring your origins. Recently, I discovered the amazing performance of the christian singer and actor Joel Smallbone (both in acting and singing) in Journey to Bethlehem and I found in him a great example to follow: it is a powerful movie, from the director Adam Anders.
Would definitely be a privilege to work someday with these amazing artists, the ones I have mentioned with great enthusiasm, because their mission is very similar to what I am searching for and doing from the independent filmmaking corner. But in the meanwhile, I will be the first one in celebrating their achievements in the commercial filmmaking industry and will be always open to include emergent talents in my films, because I think that filmmaking can be a way to transform lives, beyond being considered entertainment. It has to be an apostleship, a mission in your blood, and a call from your heart.
