We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Agnes Azria a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Agnes, so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.
Communication is one of the most important tools for creating an efficient, sustainable and healthy work environment. Being the youngest of five older siblings forced me to learn how to navigate different characters and settle conflict more than others. When you handle emotional situations objectively, and always try to identify the root of the issue first, and then work backwards and provide space for the emotional aspects, you’ll find it much easier to handle people and communicate more effectively.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a musician based in Los Angeles and I’ve been finishing up my third EP. This next project shows an evolution of my artistry, as it is more inspired by some of my favorite bands/artists, like Shygirl, Crass, and Show Me The Body. The new sound mixes drum and bass dance music with 90’s grunge and punk. I am constantly reinventing myself and this is definitely a phase I’m excited about that will allow me to go absolutely crazy!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Learning how to produce myself blessed me with a priceless freedom and flexibility for the rest of my life I wish on every singer/songwriter and musician. Mastering recorded sound is arguably as important in the new world as mastering your instrument.
2. If you’re not having fun, they are not having fun. Whatever energy you put in, whether you believe it or not, they receive. So it’s literally important to have fun or else you’re missing the point.
3. Be shamelessly yourself. I struggled with the idea of “being yourself” because I change everyday I can’t keep up sometimes. But I associate a new meaning to that saying, which is be super honest with yourself and others on how you feel, and let that navigate your surroundings and situations.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed I write it all out, or talk to someone. Sometimes you just need an outlet or something to channel all that anxiety into in order to be able to assess and look at the situation more clearly. Whatever it is in front of you, you can do it!
