Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Agnes Chau. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Agnes, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Finding my purpose has been a journey of discovery and self-realization, where my purpose found me just as much as I found it. By listening to my Higher Self and aligning with my Divine Path, I uncovered a deeper understanding of who I am and what I’m meant to do. It was at the intersection of my values, skills, and interests that I discovered true fulfillment. What began as hobbies – passions I pursued out of genuine interest, gradually evolved into my profession and ultimately, my life’s calling.
In my first profession as an aerospace engineer, I honed the ability to get to the root cause of both technical and people challenges. There was a lot of stress in my first career that resulted in an imbalance in my body. I developed hobbies that included exploring natural methods to restore balance and overall well-being.
One of the hobbies was chi kung, a practice I describe as slow-moving meditation and exercises that empower the organs and balance the body’s emotions. Over time, through my various hobbies and interests, I deepened my understanding of how to tap into heart, mind, and body intelligence for physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
These skills and interests aligned perfectly with my values of helping others overcome their challenges and become the best versions of themselves. This alignment has guided me to where I am today, living a purpose-driven life that continues to evolve and grow as I do.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As a transformational life coach, a PSYCH-K® facilitator, a brain health coach, and with a treasure chest of tools, I help my clients upgrade their human operating system (heart, mind, and body intelligence), and eliminate outdated subconscious beliefs, to live better lives, and become better versions of themselves.
Sometimes outdated subconscious programs, often from early childhood, may interfere with living the life you want. Your subconscious has recorded everything since you were in the womb, playing back these inputs throughout your life. You know there’s an imbalance when too many automatic negative thoughts pop up that cause excess stress. Addressing this imbalance is as simple as updating the software on your smartphone.
Since almost 95% of your life operates on ‘auto-pilot,’ driven by your subconscious mind, It’s important to have a guide to help you break free from self-imposed limitations. Negative thoughts, self-sabotaging actions, and victim scenarios create roadblocks to joyful living. Just as you reboot or upgrade your computer, you can reboot or upgrade your internal supercomputer, the subconscious mind. Don’t let a ‘corrupted app’ hold you back from becoming a better version of yourself.
Seeing breakthroughs in my clients, excites me the most. People who have experienced trauma, abuse, relationship challenges, health problems and more, are able to overcome limiting beliefs at the subconscious level and also optimize their brain health and live more joyful lives.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In my journey, the most important quality has been a willingness to embrace learning beyond what is taught in school. As a lifelong learner, I enjoy gaining new knowledge and reinventing myself. My advice for folks early in their journey is to continue learning in different areas of life. By learning something new, you also develop brain reserve. This is the brain’s ability to bounce back faster when setbacks occur.
The most important skill has been to learn how to communicate effectively to understand others and to be understood. A PSYCH-K® balance for verbal and non-verbal rapport also helps up level one’s verbal, auditory, and kinesthetic communication skills. Also, joining groups like the National Speakers Association helps one become a better communicator. Being a member has helped me be a better coach, professional speaker, and writer. Being open to feedback to improve oneself is key. The ability to communicate well can improve one’s life and influence other people’s lives for the better.
Connecting with one’s superconscious, the Higher Self, has been most impactful in my journey. Your internal radio station – your intuition, your Higher Self, your superconscious, the Force within you – guides you with messages from a place of divine love. By breathing into your Divine Heart, you can connect with Divine Intelligence within that is connected with Divine Source. The Higher Self is the 24 x 7 counselor that has your back always. While you may hear the ego mind, the inner child, or different archetypes at play, each doing their role, it is the Higher Self that helps you align with your Divine Path. For folks who are early in their journey, developing this loving connection aligns one with one’s life purpose and creates peace from within.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I will breath into my heart and do any of the meditations, exercises, or activities that can be found in my nonprofit’s stress relief program. The Empowered Heart’s stress relief program is free and can be accessed through the website: www.empowered-heart.org. Individual stress relief meditations can be found on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@EmpoweredHeart.
According to Harvard researchers, 80% of doctors’ visits are caused by stress. After learning chi kung from 12 instructors, I learned that the opposite of stress is balance. The Harvard study shows that mindfulness activities like yoga and meditation can reduce stress and improve well-being. This motivated me to create the Empowered Heart’s stress relief program to teach people how to tap into heart, mind, and body intelligence through meditations and other mindfulness activities, for overall well-being.
Sometimes, when the stress runs too deep, a PSYCH-K® balance is in order. Through postures and movements, and energy work, I can get to a whole brain state, where there is greater clarity, and more resourcefulness. This is a modality that I have used often in working with clients overcome stressful or traumatic experiences. More info can be found at www.AgnesChau.com.
Also, connecting with nature engages all the senses. Mother Earth has a natural healing vibrational frequency. When you can connect with nature, and incorporate movement, you can get outside of your head and into your heart and body.
Also, volunteering my time to teach women self-defense through my nonprofit activities, also helps address overwhelm by thinking of others, and takes me out of isolation with my thoughts. As the Head Instructor for the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Women Empowered Program at the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Chandler and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Glendale Certified Training Centers, I enjoy empowering others. Volunteering has many benefits that are good for brain health and overall health. It can reduce stress and anxiety by releasing neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin that are associated with feelings of happiness and calm. Helping others activates the brain’s reward centers, releasing oxytocin and endorphins, contributing to meaning and purpose and emotional well-being. Volunteering by teaching involves problem-solving, learning new skills, and engaging in social interactions, all of which stimulate the brain and contributes to a sense of accomplishment. Being part of a community and contributing to something larger than yourself helps maintain mental health.
