Meet Ahmad Fielder

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ahmad Fielder. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ahmad, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

I believe my optimism stemmed from the obstacles I encountered along my creative journey and realizing that things could change if I remained positive and kept the faith. There were multiple moments where things didn’t go as planned, but as I continued to persevere, I saw my goals and accomplishments come to fruition. My family, friends, and fans keep me hopeful because they show me that I’m headed in the right direction, and their reception is reassuring, motivating me to keep going. Also, enjoying the process and relishing the moment while creating will keep me as optimistic as possible. Additionally, seeing the silver lining in things helped me navigate the challenging times and focus on the positive aspects of life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a color designer, musician, beat maker and visual artist. Doing these things daily is special because I have the opportunity to create something unique/innovative and tell a meaningful story. Being a color designer in the footwear industry has given me the skills to think outside the box and come up with intriguing ideas each season, which is highly crucial. I’ve also utilized this ability in my other creative endeavors. A great example is creating a conceptual instrumental album every year. Developing these albums is exciting because I have a chance to explore/brainstorm on new sounds, genres, and ideas. For instance, my latest album, ‘Emerald Soul’, is about the diverse soulful sounds I encountered while traveling overseas over the past few years. The album also symbolizes balance and harmony.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back on my creative journey, the three qualities that had the most impact were humility, grit, and kindness. Showing humility is beneficial because it gives you the chance to acknowledge and recognize your limitations, and try to improve specific aspects of your craft. It also helps promote personal growth and strengthen relationships along the way. Having grit is vital because it enables you to think long-term about your goals and dreams, and gives you the courage to take on challenges. I’ve also learned that grit involves resilience in overcoming adversity to achieve anything you put your heart into. And lastly, being kind is important because it can open so many doors in your field that you can imagine. Kindness is also a valuable soft skill to possess because you can perform a good deed for someone, and they may return the favor by recommending you to others throughout the industry.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

As a creative, feeling overwhelmed is inevitable from time to time. Over the last few years, taking 30 minute walks and enjoying the surroundings of my neighborhood while listening to music has helped tremendously. Additionally, exercising consistently has also minimized the overwhelming feeling. I’ve always given myself some grace and accepted that my feelings are valid under challenging situations. These moments will pass, and eventually you’ll become battle-tested from those strenuous scenarios.
