We recently connected with Ahman Laster and have shared our conversation below.
Ahman, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I learned it from. My dad he started selling fruits and vegetables and a street corner and turned it into a store with hard work
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Ahman I am a chef for 25 plus years moved to Minnesota in 2005, thinking what could I do to represent where I am from ,,,so I no Minnesotans only no snow cones so I decided to make Italian ice.So in 2014 I launched Philly Station under a tent after first year I realized I needed to represent Philly more , so I bought a grill and added Cheesesteak, that’s when my ones I had something so I was working June -October under a tent , but the people wanted more asking where is my store,I got sad when my answer was this is it so in 2020 I bought my food truck this is my 3rd summer with the truck and in June it’s my 10 th year in business
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
All I no how to do is cook after high school I went to Chef school so I knew what it took to run your own food business , my advice for someone that wants to open your own food truck is if you cooked before in a professional setting then you will have a better chance of running your business right than someone who never cooked before
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
My number one challenge is trying to get reliable help that takes me off of doing all the cooking, and being my truck is seasonal it’s a hard thing to do
