We were lucky to catch up with Ahmed Elsalakawy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ahmed , thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
Well it started with biggest one which is dropping out of dental school and moving to the US to become a wrestler so after that it’s kinda hard to get scared of taking a risk or try something new because in the back of my mind I’m like well I took the biggest risk of my life so what am I really afraid of lol
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m really focusing on my pro wrestling career and how I could reach to the highest levels possible. I love trying to do things kinda different when you think ima go left ima go right and when you think you know where the match is going I flip it I love telling stories in the ring and making people really really watch and not just react to my new moves but to truly be invested.
I’m also one of the coaches at the fallout shelter in queens New York so I truly try and help as much as I can and what’s cool is I’m still learning along side all of them because we have a great great staff (joakim morales , Paul Mendoza , Elliot Martinez ,Jorge santi , Steve Peña ,Mike law ,Steve dumang, masha Slamovich and akira )
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One of the best advice I got was Watch, listen and shut up . Don’t try and show that you know and give excuses so them give you the advice and don’t interrupt . And don’t be afraid to go ask for advice because the one thing common about ALL WRESTLERS is that we love to talk about wrestling
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Is they taught me to always stay with Allah and don’t worry about anything as long as I’m not doing anything wrong . And my mother specifically who the only one to truly listen to me when I was talking about my dream and not call me crazy lol but to actually encourage me to follow my dream and fun fact he sewed my first ever pro wrestling tights so I will forever be grateful for her
