Meet Ahmed “flex” Omar

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ahmed “flex” Omar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ahmed “Flex”, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Being the only one in the room who looks like you can feel isolating, but I’ve learned to view it as an opportunity rather than a challenge. Over the years, I’ve honed the ability to adapt quickly, understanding that my unique perspective is not just valid but essential.

I’ve leaned into my role as a bridge-builder, fostering connections between diverse groups by emphasizing our common goals and leveraging my distinct experiences to offer fresh solutions. The key is to remain confident in your own value, actively listen to others, and consistently demonstrate your capability. Success, in these environments, often comes from not just fitting in, but standing out in a way that adds value.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

As the founder of FlexTech.ai, I’m dedicated to harnessing the power of artificial intelligence for social good. My work focuses on creating AI-driven solutions that address real-world challenges, particularly in underserved communities. What excites me most about this work is the potential to bridge the digital divide, bringing cutting-edge technology to those who need it most and ensuring that innovation benefits everyone, not just a select few.

Our brand stands out because of our commitment to equity and inclusivity in tech. We’re not just building tools; we’re empowering communities and fostering sustainable change. We recently wrapped up Season 3 of our podcast, “Tech in the Hood,” which aims to raise awareness about our initiatives and spark meaningful conversations around AI’s role in social impact. We have exciting plans on the horizon, including new partnerships and the expansion of our services to reach more communities across the nation.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities that have been crucial in my journey are resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning. Resilience has helped me navigate the inevitable setbacks that come with entrepreneurship, while adaptability has allowed me to pivot and seize new opportunities in a rapidly changing landscape. Continuous learning has been key to staying ahead in an industry as dynamic as Information Technology.

Surviving the war in Somalia taught me the true meaning of resilience. It’s not just about bouncing back from setbacks but about finding strength in the most challenging situations. This experience has deeply influenced how I approach life and business, always striving to move forward no matter the odds.

For those just starting out, I’d advise them to embrace challenges as opportunities to grow. Developing resilience comes from facing difficulties head-on, so don’t shy away from tough situations. Cultivating adaptability is about being open to change and learning from every experience. Finally, make learning a lifelong habit—whether through formal education, reading, or simply staying curious about the world around you.

And a key piece of advice I’d offer young people is to “Flex in a humble way.” Be confident in your abilities, but never forget the importance of humility. It’s through humility that we stay grounded, continue to learn, and build meaningful connections with others.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Absolutely, I’m always open to partnerships and collaborations, especially with individuals and organizations that share a passion for leveraging technology for social good. At FlexTech.ai, we’re particularly interested in collaborating with educational institutions, non-profits, and businesses that are focused on digital inclusion, AI ethics, and community empowerment. We believe that through strategic partnerships, we can amplify our impact and bring innovative solutions to communities that need them the most.

If you’re reading this and are interested in collaborating, I’d love to hear from you. You can connect with me through LinkedIn or reach out via our website (FlexTech.ai). Let’s explore how we can work together to create meaningful change.
