We were lucky to catch up with Ahnne Liebroder recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ahnne, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I would say my resilience comes from adversity, my mother who taught me “nothing is impossible, if you haven’t achieved something yet, it is only because you haven’t figured it out.” Life is about learning to embrace our failures and learning there is no such thing as failure. Failure is just figuring out one more way that doesn’t work. I tell my clients all the time if you have challenges or things in your life you don’t like or currently experiencing thy should stop and ask themselves the following questions:
1) What is it about this that I need to learn?
2) How can I use this to either grow or capitalize on?
3) What do I need to do to ensure I don’t repeat this ever again?
If you have the answers to those questions you will continue to learn and grow. Most times you will find there is a greater blessing in the experience than we had thought. Life is about the experience not the destination. Continue to learn, grow and become more today than you were yesterday.
Consider giving up the belief in good, bad, right and wrong. This will only place judgment and shame on us, those we love, and others. If we adopt the thought process of being effective or less effective in our lives it will alleviate the need to be critical, judgemental, shameful, and harsh with ourselves and others.
Remember to be kind to yourself and embrace your greatness. You will find it is much easier to extend that grace to others.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
CONSTANT AND NEVER ENDING IMPROVEMENT – You may be surprised that most people once they leave the academic world “never” pick up a book, learn a new skill or add to their knowledge. It is my belief that should continue for the rest of our lives. I try to read at least a book a week, learn something new, and immediately implement this into my life. It isn’t enough to listen or read, we should take what we have read and within the next 72 hours pick something from what we have learned and implement it into our lives. This way we are sure to own what it is we have read or listened to. It then becomes a part of you. Ask yourself who you admire, what it is that you admire about them and do what they have done or are doing. Continue to grow, develop, be open to new ideas and humble enough to realize no one knows everything. However, we can always be in the process of changing and becoming more today than we were yesterday.
