Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to AIDEE MEZA. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
AIDEE, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Being the only one in the room; I have learned to be successful even when I am the only one in the room that looks like me is to simply look at myself, not at others. My focus is myself; not others.
I have actually have already been in settings where it is that I am the only one that looks like me. I am a first-generation Mexican-American
in the field of Interior Design, which obtains about 7% of Hispanics in the field.
It CAN be intimidating, however what keeps me grounded is my faith. My faith in Jesus Christ, in addition to my drive and passion that I have for Interior Design.
I don’t let fear and what others may have to say or how they view me affect me. It is a privilege to get the only one in the room that looks like me; for I to pave the way for others like me seeking this career.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Aidee Meza— an emerging Interior Designer, and I am the heart behind Atelier Aidee.
I am was born and raised in Georgia near a small town on the outskirts of Atlanta, GA. and to this day I still reside here.
I find it ironic, I actually disliked Atlanta due to the not so pleasant roads and traffic, however the Lord has lead me to Atlanta for my new career; Interior Design.
I stumbled into this field unexpectedly believe it or not. Previously, I was in Esthetics and the owner of a small business, Authentic Skin. Therefore, yes; I am a Licensed Esthetician.
Esthetics is a branch of cosmetology and skin care. It involves a range of beauty services for the purpose to enhance and maintain skin appearance. For example facials, hair removal, makeup, ect. I specialized in luxurious lash extensions and luxury hair removal services.
Creativity and the use of my hands has always been a joy of mine. My hands and my mind are the tools God has blessed me with. We all obtains gifts we are blessed with. However, in life, at times we do not discover that gifting until we discover who we truly are.
And it is beautiful to say that my gifting of creating, in my life personally, is being sharpened and is being used in a higher purpose — in Interior Design.
To end, when I left the Esthetics, it was out of faith, trust, and obedience in God. He confirmed I leave the field and I had no idea what was to come next— this is how I stumbled into Interior Design.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three most important qualities —
1. FAITH
2. PATIENCE
3. TRUST
These three may sound so simple and easy, but they are actually hard to follow and powerful at the same time. When you tie all three together, you create a system. A system that flows into other areas of your heart and being, which will only edify you and push you in your purpose in a positive way. It may hurt, but growth comes with pain.
The advice I have for folks who are early in their journey is… Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:33)
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The book that has played an important role in my development; which I first opened up was 3 years ago. In 2022, to be exact. Which is the word of God —the Bible.
The Bible is alive and speaks truth; you can even find valuable wisdom in terms of entrepreneurship, finances, and success. In fact, God was the first entrepreneur. He creating nothing, into something. This is where I obtain my concept of creating in Interior Design.
Impactful nuggets of wisdom can be found in: Galatians 6:7, Matthew 25:14-30, 1 Kings 17:8-16, Proverbs 16:3, Colossians 3:23, and Philippians 4:13.
I want to end with stating religion and relationship differ greatly from each other; what I have due to an encounter, is a deep intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.
