Meet Ainsley Harvey

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ainsley Harvey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Ainsley , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

Creativity has played a big role in my life since I was about 6 years old. It started with my mom. As an artist, it always help me to think outside of the box and helps me to think critically when I am faced with different life situations. I keep my creativity alive by focusing on my passion for it. Passion allows me to continue to persevere, work hard and to remain optimistic.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am an abstract visual artist and an actor. I became a visual artist at about 6 years old while coloring with my mother. I consider her to be my creative spark. After that I continue to color in my coloring/tracing books which transitioned into me creating various drawings and painting as I got older. It led me to graduating with a B.A. in Studio Art-Painting. About 10 years later I participated in various art exhibitions and shows.

For acting, I participated in theater my Junior year of highschool and was in the ensemble for my 1st musical during my Senior year. 13 years later I returned to acting and have participated in community plays/musicals,student films, and commercials.

I am looking forward to continue my journey as an artist/actor. It makes me feel happy and excited to not only think outside the box in these art forms but to continue to be challenged and improve myself at the craft.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I used to be an extreme introvert. Over time it has improved and I think acting has helped with that. I still consider myself an introvert but I am able to work out of that shell when the time calls for it. Also, believing in myself and doing my own personal best. I believe in the skills that I have and am willing to show them to the world!!! The best advice I can give (especially to introverts) is to focus on what you love to do in your life and go for it. You know yourself more than anyone else. Believe and Persevere!!!!

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

If I get to a point of feeling overwhelmed I will take a break and rest. Take a few breaths. Do not absorb everything all at once. Give yourself time and space.
