Meet Aisha White

We recently connected with Aisha White and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Aisha with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I got my work ethic from my mother! I wouldn’t call her a work-a-holic so to speak but pretty damn close. I remember growing she was a self employed hair stylist and most weekends she would work til sun up. Sleep for a few hours and start all over again. This is something that she instilled in me. I was never just given anything more than the basics. If I wanted something outside of that or more lavish I had to put in the work. Whether it be through chores or my grades or my behavior there was no reward without work

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a freelance makeup artist. I have been working in the industry for 19 years now. WOW! Post covid I was laid off from Mac cosmetics after 15 years and had to makeup lemonade out of the lemons I was given. I had always freelanced on the side. When I would have a later shift or had weekends off it was great way to make extra money. Which gave me good word of mouth referrals in the area. Some of the most exciting part about my work is 1st making ppl smile and feel like their best self. That’s hard to beat. 2nd it’s incredible how many opportunities can come up in this industry. So many travel opportunities, branding events for big brands and charity events that want to offer beauty services. It’s truly endless. And Amazing!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that I had to work on was 1st and foremost is patience. Patience. Patience. Patience. Haha that just one but clearly the most important. 2nd is having a plan. By nature I am a fly by the seat of my pants type of person but in business you have to have a plan so that you have a goal to reach. Otherwise you will only see small gains and not true success. 3rd being transparent.being able to be honest with yourself and others and holding yourself accountable is a true test to your growth, success and character.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The number 1 challenge I face is setting myself apart in such a saturated industry. I continue to try and stay relevant on social media and truly and genuinely engage with my clients. I am always thinking and trying innovative ways to be engaged with past present and future clients. It’s a ongoing process that I hope will start to feel like 2nd nature soon haha
