Meet Al Bowman

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Al Bowman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Al , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by leaving the real by the waist side as often as I can. Creativity is all around us, it just comes down to perspective. If you the let what’s going on in the world cloud your thoughts, it can consume whatever small piece of intellectual freedom that you have left.

I give myself time to breathe, time to think, time reflect, and time to show gratitude. I take time out of my day to read or to learn new and interesting skills. Sometimes we have to slow our world down to see what’s in front of us.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a Big & Tall Model represented by TRUE Model Management. I have modeled for a few major brands but my hearts lies within creative shoots. I have been modeling for about 5 years now I always thank Crusades of Curves for encouraging me to get started in the space. I currently work as the Exhibition Manager for the Black Boy & Black Girl Art Show (Raleigh/Durham areas).

I also run my own business, Al Bowman Creative, which is a creative company that focuses on progressing passion projects and bringing visions to life. We specialize in the areas of event operations/management, website design, custom apparel, creative direction, and miniature upcycled art installations. We also have a merch tab on our website where we sell our own apparel focused on art, health, and self love.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe my experience working in retail, the ability to want to learn, and confidence to put myself out there has been most impactful in my journey. My best advice would be to learn as much as you can about your area of interest and apply what fits for you. Never stop learning and growing.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Patience. I’ve learned not to rush anything and put my best foot forward when it comes to personal and contracted projects. In my opinion, I’d rather take my time with a project and get it near perfect rather than rushing a project that could’ve been much better had I waited.
