Meet Alan Questel

We recently connected with Alan Questel and have shared our conversation below.

Alan, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
From practice…doing what I do even when I don’t feel confident. Learning from my mistakes and not being tough on myself when I do make mistakes. And…doing what I like…helping others to learn abut themselves and get to know themselves better

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I help people like themselves more. I have never met someone who doesn’t want to like themselves more…even if they already like themselves. I began this teaching the Feldenkrais Method, asking people to move in a way that they like the way it feels. This was all intra-personal. Over time I realized that when I did an act of kindness…I liked myself more, which led to my book, Practice Intentional Acts of Kindness…and Like Yourself More…bringing it all to the inter-personal

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Patience, perseverance and being interested in others. For others…all of the above…acting in the direction they want, even when their feelings are something else. Courage…let yourself fail and succeed and learn from others.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I have found that since I wrote my book on kindness…the next levels for me to be kinder towards myself and others is an even great challenge…the rungs on the ladder get further apart. And its a challenge I am happy to take on.
