We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alanna Trzcinski. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alanna below.
Alanna, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I discovered my purpose through a challenging journey with Endometriosis, a debilitating disease that initially left me feeling lost and frustrated due to misinformation and a lack of trust in conventional medical approaches. After enduring multiple surgeries that offered temporary relief but failed to address the root cause, I stumbled upon a supportive community on Facebook called Nancy’s Nook. This group provided invaluable resources and guided me toward seeking expertise in excision surgery.
Experiencing the transformative impact of accurate information and compassionate care, I regained control of my life. This profound shift ignited a passion within me to advocate for others facing similar struggles. Recognizing the need for better awareness and education surrounding Endometriosis, I felt compelled to speak out and share my journey.
My purpose crystallized as I realized the importance of disseminating reliable information from true experts who not only possess the necessary medical knowledge but also approach their work with empathy. I became determined to bridge the gap between medical expertise and patient advocacy, ensuring that individuals like me receive timely diagnoses and access to effective treatments based on accurate information.
In essence, my purpose emerged from a deeply personal experience with Endometriosis, leading me to become a voice for those who suffer in silence. Through my advocacy, I aspire to empower others with knowledge, support, and a pathway to better health outcomes.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My journey with Endometriosis has been both a personal struggle and a catalyst for meaningful change. As a young girl, I faced debilitating, painful periods and various health issues, only to be told that it was normal. It wasn’t until years later, during a hospital visit for a kidney stone, that an endometrioma on my ovary was discovered. This led me on a quest for a proper diagnosis and understanding of the disease.
Through my own research on platforms like Nancy’s Nook, I uncovered the shocking reality that 1 in 10 women suffer from Endometriosis, yet it takes an average of 8-10 years to receive a diagnosis. Fueled by the misdiagnosis, misunderstanding, and inadequate definition of Endometriosis, I felt compelled to raise awareness. I wanted to debunk myths, such as the misconception that hormones, hysterectomy, or menopause can cure Endometriosis.
This burning desire to make a difference in women’s health led me to launch the “Endo Battery” podcast. I envisioned it as a space where individuals could access accurate information, expert insights, and a sense of community. I aimed to provide a resource that was not only informative but also uplifting and encouraging, acknowledging the daily challenges faced by those living with Endometriosis.
Through the podcast, I’ve had the privilege of sharing stories, building relationships with fellow endowarriors, Endometriosis excision specialists, and other experts. This experience has not only shaped me as a person but also strengthened my advocacy for the Endometriosis community.
Expanding beyond podcasting, I, along with four others, founded a non-profit community support group in Northern Colorado called “Endo Village.” Our mission is to offer support within our community and advocate for improved education in schools, doctor’s offices, and the community at large. This venture aligns with my commitment to fostering change in the narrative surrounding Endometriosis education, care, and treatment.
Looking ahead, there is a lot in the pipeline for the Endo Battery platform. I see the podcast as a vehicle for community connection, emphasizing the importance of unity in reshaping the narrative around Endometriosis. I often refer to our community as the “Endo Battery Family” because it truly takes all of us working together to drive positive change.
In a nutshell, my professional focus revolves around empowering the Endometriosis community through the Endo Battery podcast and non-profit initiatives like Endo Village. Together, we are working towards a future where accurate information, support, and understanding are readily available, and the narrative surrounding Endometriosis is transformed.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities that played a pivotal role were passion, perseverance, and strong communication skills.
Firstly, passion has been my driving force. Without genuine passion for my cause, burnout becomes inevitable. It’s essential to align your efforts with something you truly care about; otherwise, the challenges can become overwhelming. My advice to those embarking on their journey is to explore their passions, identify what truly ignites their fire, and channel their energy into causes or pursuits that resonate on a personal level.
Perseverance is the second key ingredient. Starting something new is never easy, and facing numerous rejections or setbacks is part of the process. For every success, there may be several disappointments, but the ability to persist and learn from each experience is crucial. To those at the beginning of their journey, I recommend embracing resilience. Understand that setbacks are not failures but opportunities to refine your approach and move closer to your goals.
Lastly, strong communication skills have been instrumental in navigating challenges and building meaningful connections. It’s not always comfortable, but effective communication is vital for expressing your needs, negotiating opportunities, and connecting with others who share your vision. My advice to those starting out is to actively work on enhancing communication skills. Be clear, be personable, and don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. Surround yourself with a supportive network that encourages your growth, celebrates your victories, and provides comfort during challenging times.
As a tip for success, always remember your purpose and stay focused on your goals. Don’t let discouragement or setbacks derail your journey. Establish healthy boundaries, know your limits, and prioritize self-care. Taking breaks and injecting moments of fun into your work can rejuvenate your spirit and maintain a healthy balance.
In summary, let passion be your guide, perseverance your driving force, and strong communication skills your bridge to success. Embrace the journey, seek support from those who uplift you, and always remember to enjoy the process.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The primary obstacle I’m currently facing revolves around the challenge of expanding and enhancing the reach of the Endo Battery podcast while grappling with limited resources, including materials, finances, and at times, knowledge. Growing in the podcasting space, particularly when focused on providing valuable, free information for the community, presents a unique set of hurdles.
The constraints of time, energy, and financial resources could easily discourage many, but I view this as a challenge rather than a deterrent. To overcome this obstacle, I am actively exploring potential partnerships with companies that share the vision of making a positive impact in the community. By collaborating with organizations that align with the mission of the Endo Battery podcast, I hope to leverage their support in terms of resources and expertise to fuel the growth of the platform.
Moreover, I am putting in dedicated effort to expand the Endo Battery Family, our community of listeners and supporters. Building a strong, engaged community not only enhances the podcast’s impact but also opens up opportunities for collective growth and support.
One unique aspect of this challenge is my moral commitment to keep the podcast’s information free of charge. Recognizing the financial constraints faced by many in accessing basic healthcare, it’s important to me that the valuable insights shared on the podcast remain accessible to all. To navigate this, I am seeking creative and sustainable solutions, exploring avenues for support that don’t compromise the principle of free access to crucial information.
In essence, I see this challenge as an opportunity to find innovative ways to grow, driven by partnerships and community building. While the obstacles are real, my commitment to the cause and the Endo Battery Family’s support give me the motivation to overcome these challenges and continue providing essential information to those who need it most.
