We were lucky to catch up with Albina Guzman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Albina, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
People build resilience when faced challenges, adversity, and other stresses. As an immigrant I experienced it all. I moved out from my house when I was 16 years old and went to study at a university to another city. That’s how my adult life full of responsibilities started. At that time, I was perusing a career of business administration and management in Moscow, Russia. At age of 21 I moved to NYC. I knew I needed to adapt, get an American degree, get a profession so I can have a good job. That’s when I was recommended to go into medicine. I knew that business administration is not something I wanted to do for my whole life, so I gave medicine a chance. It took me 13 years to obtain a Doctorate Degree in Nursing. Over these 13 years I build a successful practice in New York and Florida. My clinic does Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, weight loss, nutritional IVs, Injectable Aesthetics and Lasers. I’m also an owner of several other businesses and an investor as well.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
An immigrant from Russia, who moved to NYC at the age of 21, obtained a doctorate degree in Nursing, and build a successful business. I’m Dr. Albina Guzman, DNP, FNP-BC, an owner of a clinics in NY and Florida. We specialize in BHRT, Functional Medicine, weight loss, aesthetic medicine with injectables and lasers. We have 2 registered nurses working for us, 1 Nurse Practitioner and other operational staff.
I’m also an official trainer for aesthetic pharmaceutical company Revance known as Teoxane in Europe.
I can say that I did a right chose by switching my career from business to medicine as I found a true passion in clinical setting working with patients, changing their life for better. Yes, it was a hard rout , but was totally worth it .
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I think the most important was choosing the right strategy in life, thinking what would give you the best result. In my case I think it’s the right education, obtaining a profession. When you have a profession preferably where the licensure is needed you will always be needed and be set apart from other people without it. Another quality is hard work and dedication. There were many times when studying and working was very hard and I was at a point of quitting, but you have to just suffer through it for better living in the future.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Myself and my strong desire to be financially independent. Coming from a poor family I have grown with strong goals to become someone who could support myself and my family, who can work hard to enjoy the life ,travel, have time off when needed without being stressed about finances. I can say that by my age of 35 im everything I’d ever wanted to be. I’m a beautiful successful woman, smart, educated, I’m a wife and a mother of 2 boys, that has time to spend with her family and kids.
