We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alec Ganesha. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alec below.
Alec, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I discovered my true purpose after my mom passed away in 2014. In my grief, I found myself once again turning to art as a way to cope with life. Looking back, I realize that art has always been a deep passion of mine. I remember, as a child, creating a yellow coffee mug with three elephants for my mom in 2002. Twelve years later, I found myself drawing an elephant again—this time as a way to process her loss. In that moment, I knew I wanted to pursue art professionally. My goal is to keep my mom’s memory alive through my work, allowing her spirit to live on in every piece I create.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My art is a reflection of resilience, healing, and the transformative power of self-expression. Drawing inspiration from my own life journey, I create works that honor the memory of my late mother and explore themes of love, loss, and renewal. Elephants, as recurring motifs in my art, symbolize strength, wisdom, and the enduring bond I share with her.
As a self-taught artist, my work emerges from a place of authenticity and vulnerability. I embrace mixed media techniques to layer textures and emotions, blending vibrant colors with intricate details that invite viewers to connect with the deeper narratives behind each piece.
Through my art, I aim to radiate positive energy and inspire others to find beauty in their own stories, no matter how challenging the path. My work is not just about what’s seen on the canvas—it’s about the emotions it evokes and the conversations it sparks.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe one of my strongest qualities is being introspective—I’m always looking within to heal and grow. Another defining trait is my empathy, shaped by the complexities of my childhood. Along the way, I’ve also developed the ability to truly love myself and my journey.
If I could offer advice on cultivating these qualities, I’d say always look inward and release the need for too many expectations. Learn to fail, grow from it, and never become complacent. Keep challenging your perception, and you’ll continue evolving.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
The biggest area of growth in the past 12 months has been getting out of my own way. I think I was holding on to my past and not living in the moment. I believe I have been starting to understand that I am okay now and I don’t have to always be on my toes.
