Meet Alejandra Avila

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alejandra Avila. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alejandra, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I wouldn’t say I’ve fully overcome imposter syndrome—maybe one day I will. But for now, what helps is being able to recognize it and distinguish between genuinely lacking a skill and simply feeling inadequate due to imposter syndrome. To me, the key difference is this: acknowledging areas where you need to grow is important, but when self-doubt creeps in for no valid reason, it’s crucial to remind yourself that you are capable, you do belong, and you are worthy.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I co-founded PartyAnimal, a company that creates personalized birthday parties in a box for dogs. I’m absolutely in love with what I do and feel so lucky to have developed this product from scratch. The idea was born out of my deep love for my dog, Maya. Since adopting her, I’ve celebrated her birthday and gotcha day every year. It became a tradition I genuinely looked forward to.

When Maya was four, I found Lenni—our second dog—on the streets of Mexico and, of course, brought her home. Naturally, our tradition extended to her as well. I wanted Lenni’s first year with us to be extra special, given the challenges she had overcome with her health. As I planned her birthday, PartyAnimal was born. By the time she turned two, our product was fully developed.

I feel incredibly lucky to do what I do. Dogs bring so much joy into our lives, and we only get a limited amount of time with them. Being able to help people create beautiful memories with their pets is something I deeply cherish. Every celebration we help bring to life is a reminder of just how special these moments are. Knowing how much they mean, I pour my heart into every detail of our products, ensuring each one is crafted with the love, care, and quality our customers—and their dogs—deserve.

But perhaps one of the most rewarding aspects of PartyAnimal is our ability to support adoptable dogs. We’ve been able to highlight overlooked dogs, helping them find their forever homes. Partnering with local rescues, donating, and shining a light on these incredible animals is something I never imagined I’d be able to do—and I’m endlessly grateful for it.

At the end of the day, PartyAnimal isn’t just about birthdays—it’s about love, memories, and giving our dogs the celebration they deserve. And I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1 . Recognizing that I don’t know everything and can’t do it all. My advice would be to stay open to learning, surround yourself with people who complement your skills, and don’t be afraid to delegate or seek expertise when needed.

2 . Asking questions and stepping into spaces with the intention of learning and growing. Approach every situation as an opportunity to gain insight. Ask thoughtful questions, seek out mentors, and engage in communities that challenge and inspire you. Personally, growth has happened the most when I have stepped outside of my comfort zone. It can be challenging to do so, but I remind myself of how rewarding it has been been.

3 . Accepting help. My advice with this is recognize that receiving help is not a sign of weakness but a strength. The right support system can accelerate your progress and help you navigate challenges more effectively.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

I just started reading Daring Greatly by Brené Brown and its about the power of voulnerability. the entire theme of the book reminded me that vulnerability isn’t just courageous—it’s transformative. Truly showing up as yourself can be incredibly empowering, unlocking self-discovery and growth in ways you never expected. For me, embracing vulnerability has allowed me to step into my most authentic self, revealing strengths I didn’t know I had. It has opened the door to meaningful opportunities and deeper, more genuine connections.
