We were lucky to catch up with Alejandra Bustos recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Alejandra with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My parents and I are immigrants from Mexico. At 3 years of age my mom and I had to sleep in my dad’s truck because we were staying at my aunts and my cousin would complain about my crying. Since my mom didn’t want to bother them through the day she enrolled me in preschool at that age. I believe that really helped and the growth and functioning of my brain. I always loved school and I always loved to excel. I was such a high achiever by 4 years of age. By 6-7years old I was completely aware of my poverty. I lived in a garage with my family by that age and I knew it. I was ashamed and embarrassed with friends by 8-9 years old. I tried hard to stand out in class and outside of class since I felt I had control over that and not my economic class. I tried though to make mi ey as early as I can remember. Selling sandwiches and sodas during parades on my street I was only about 8 years old. By 10-11yrs of age I was selling candies in school. I tried going to work with my mom at that age. They paid me 5 bucks for hours of work. I hated that job. By 14 yrs old I worked at a restaurant 12 hours on Saturday and 12 hours on Sunday. 24 hrs in a 2 day span. I was hungry for more, for nice things, expensive brands, everything I saw on tv. I knew I couldn’t depend on my parents that I had to do it myself. Honestly been hungry since day one and I continue being so hungry. I no longer chase money or things. I only chase God now. I now live in peace and complete abundance because He gives me all those other things. Don’t get me wrong, I continue to work on the gifts and talents God has placed in me but I now do that for the right reasons with the right heart because that’s what God cares about, the condition of my heart. That I love Him first above all things and people and that I love my neighbor as I love myself.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
God is first in my life. I build His house and He builds mine. Then growing in the music talent He has gifted me. I produce my own beats, write my own music and record my own stuff. He has me on a path to grow more musically my engineering my sound which is the mixing and mastering process of making music. It’s challenging but exciting all at the same time. I love it and wouldn’t want to do anything else. I love to share my stories to inspire and empower people. That if I can triumph out of it so can you. I also have a children’s poetry book that I also continue to spread to share the message of love in the home and the importance of relationship between parents and children. The poems and true life skills all children need to learn about specially in the home to develop a healthy and strong confidence. Topics about love, acceptance, honesty, forgiveness, working hard, taking risks and so much more. I also have a foundation making this my 11th years of blessing deserving families through our Southern California with hope and happiness with a real Christmas tree it’s decorations and more. My life is not about me but loving and serving God and living and serving people as I live and serve myself. Thank You.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Knowing and understanding God The Father , God The Son and God The Holy Spirit. Now that I know my living God I know myself. I have received from Him everything I need to live free, healed and equipped with all the resources to live a purposeful life. God is my only true source and I finally live in the true peace, love, joy, that comes from Him. I advise everyone to know God. We are all so broken and messed up when we are living in the world. We all need God our creator and if we believe in Him, God our Father. Everything we chase is only found in Him.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
God. Jesus. The Holy Spirit. The Bible. The Word of God. His presence!!
