Meet Alejandra Iorgulescu

We were lucky to catch up with Alejandra Iorgulescu recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alejandra, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I definitely got it from my dad. He was borderline a perfectionist, and while that could be intense at times, it really shaped how I approach challenges. One thing he drilled into us as kids was never to say “I don’t know.” If we didn’t have an answer, he’d say, “Don’t ever tell me you don’t know—go find out. Research it. Ask someone. Come back with something.”

That stuck with me. He was strict, but I’m so grateful now because that mindset made me incredibly persistent. I’m pretty stubborn—in a good way. I don’t take no for an answer easily. When I set my mind to something, I’ll dig deep, learn everything I can, and keep going until I figure it out. That’s been the foundation of how I built Miles and Hikes from scratch.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m the founder of Miles and Hikes, a platform born from a deep love of the outdoors and a big lifestyle shift. After years of working in the software sector, I found myself craving the peace and quiet only nature can provide. What started as weekend escapes became solo road trips, and eventually a full-on commitment to a life of freedom and exploration.

Miles and Hikes is all about helping people—especially women over 40—embrace the freedom of the open road and find confidence in the outdoors. I create content that blends practical resources with inspiration: vlogs, solo camping tips, road trip checklists, gear guides, and curated music mixes under the “Miles and Beats” series—perfect for long drives or relaxing under the stars.

What makes this work exciting for me is seeing people realize that it’s not too late to chase adventure or start over.. It doesn’t matter if you’re sleeping in your car for the first time or planning a months-long road trip, there’s something powerful about stepping into nature on your own terms.

I also created BuenosBeats, a music project that pairs perfectly with this lifestyle—chill, downtempo, and electronic mixes made for road trips, high desert sunsets, and winding mountain trails. It’s a sonic extension of the Miles and Hikes spirit.

Right now, I’m focused on growing Miles and Hikes into a hub for freedom-seekers—with new video content, more guides, and my upcoming Road Trip Survival Guide for Women Over 40. I’m also collaborating with other outdoor content creators that align with this mission. There’s a lot coming, and I’m excited to keep showing up for this community.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three things have made the biggest impact on my journey: resourcefulness, resilience, and storytelling.

Resourcefulness has been key, especially as a solo content creator. I’ve had to learn everything from editing videos to planning, to marketing…and the list goes on!. I don’t always have the perfect gear or setup, but I make things work with what I’ve got, especially in the beginning. For anyone starting out—Google is your best friend. Don’t wait to feel “ready.” Just start, and figure it out step by step. You’ll get better as you go.

Resilience is what kept me going during setbacks. There were moments of doubt, exhaustion, and feeling totally lost, especially when dealing with something as uncertain as YouTube. But growth lives in discomfort. The best way to build resilience is by doing hard things—consistently—and reminding yourself why you started.

Storytelling has helped me connect with people. I’ve found that being honest and clear about your “why” builds trust and community. If you’re just starting out, don’t focus on being perfect—focus on being real. Your voice matters, even if it’s still evolving.

My biggest advice? Just start. Don’t overthink it. And keep on always learning and improving.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes, absolutely. I’m always open to partnering with brands, creators, and organizations that share the values of freedom, adventure, and empowering solo travelers—especially women over 40. Ideal collaborators include outdoor gear companies, wellness and nutrition brands, travel services, and fellow content creators who focus on authentic storytelling and meaningful experiences in nature.

If you’re passionate about helping people reconnect with the outdoors and want to create something that inspires confidence and independence on the road, I’d love to hear from you.
