Meet Alejandra McPherson

We were lucky to catch up with Alejandra McPherson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alejandra, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My whole life I have had mentors. I’ve been fortunate to have had mentors – whether within my family, among my teachers, or through coaches – who willingly took me under their wing. Their influence has been my compass, steering me toward becoming the person I am today. It’s a debt of gratitude I’ll carry forever. Now, I’m all about paying it forward.

I want to be that guiding light for others, sharing my experiences and helping them navigate their paths. Making a positive impact, all while doing what I love.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a graphic designer turned brand strategist. My design journey started early, leading me to art school where I uncovered the magic of not just creating visually stunning pieces but truly listening to my clients. Design as an act of serving.

I observed the gaps in designing for others, and strategy became my bridge to fill those voids. It’s not just about a snazzy logo; it’s about diving deep into the motives, the brand’s essence, and its perception in the eyes of clients. That is where I found true transformation.

What excites me most is the power to challenge norms and show others the incredible impact of communicating authentically. I’m not just a designer; I’m an advocate for crafting businesses that align with the life you crave. ‘Strategy’ has become the key to unlocking not just a brand’s potential but also the dreams of my clients.

And guess what? There’s always something new brewing. No plans yet for expansion, but lots of exciting projects coming up.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three game-changers in my journey were courage, perseverance, and creativity.

Firstly, you need guts. Entrepreneurship is a risk-filled ride, and being afraid won’t cut it. Embrace the uncertainty, start small, and get comfy with risks.

Then, perseverance is key. Business is a marathon, not a sprint. Brace yourself for the long haul, ’cause overnight success? It’s a myth.

Lastly, creativity. You’ll face unknowns, but being creative helps you navigate uncharted waters. See the big picture, problem-solve, and remember, you’re not alone. Reach out to your community when things get tricky. They’ve likely been there too.

Advice for newbies? Embrace risks, gear up for the long game, and let creativity be your compass. You got this!

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents did two big things for me. First off, they got me into sports. It taught me about my strengths, limits, teamwork, and goal-setting – all skills that come in handy as an entrepreneur.

Secondly, they raised me with solid values. In my family, support was a given, and asking for help was seen as a strength, not a weakness. Each member of my family showed me the importance of leaving the world better than you found it. That lesson’s been my guiding star. I have skills, and I like to think I’m using them to make a positive impact.
