Meet Alejandra Montaño

We recently connected with Alejandra Montaño and have shared our conversation below.

Alejandra, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever had any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
I follow a practice from The Artist’s Way, writing three pages first thing in the morning to clear mental blocks. Another key is to just keep creating—the more you make, the more ideas flow. I usually juggle about seven very different projects at once, and that motion keeps my creativity alive.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a self-taught artist born and raised in Barrio Viejo, Tucson, to artist parents who nurtured my creative path from an early age. My work is inspired by the landscapes, colors, and cultural memory of Mexico and the American Southwest, reflecting the resilience, identity, and inherited beauty of these sun-drenched regions. Through bold, expressive brushstrokes that balance elements of realism and expressionism, I seek to capture both the emotional and physical landscapes that shape our stories.

This fall, I will open my own gallery, Alejandra Arte, on 4th Avenue in downtown Tucson. The space will host exhibits, classes, and live music, serving as a community hub where art and culture come together.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Creativity & Vision – The ability to imagine beyond the obvious and transform ideas into compelling artwork and gallery experiences.

Resilience & Perseverance – Navigating creative blocks, financial pressures, and uncertainty requires adaptability and commitment for lasting success.

Community & Connection – Thriving comes from building trust, fostering collaboration, and creating welcoming spaces that strengthen the local arts ecosystem.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Artists, creatives, and musicians of all media and genres—I’m building a gallery and community where we can come together, share ideas, and thrive. A place to introduce people to new perspectives, experiences, and art they might not otherwise encounter. Let’s create, connect, and inspire.
