Meet Alejandro Giraldo

We recently connected with Alejandro Giraldo and have shared our conversation below.

Alejandro, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?

While part of my discipline stems from my passion for art and painting, I believe its true foundation was established during my studies in electronic engineering. Although I did not find the field personally fulfilling, the experience required me to cultivate a rigorous level of discipline in order to complete the degree successfully.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am currently pursuing an MFA in Painting at SCAD Savannah. As a Colombian painter, studying here has been both inspiring and transformative. I am excited to explore painting as a way to create new meanings through images drawn from childhood memory, surrealism, and reflections on life, while engaging different visual languages on the canvas.

I am passionate about the possibilities painting offers, combining tradition with experimentation, bridging abstraction and figuration, and engaging with contemporary conversations. Looking ahead, I am eager to develop new series that expand these explorations and to share my work with wider audiences.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I believe everyone has a natural talent, something that, for some reason, just feels easier and more natural to do. I once heard someone say that if you ever have to choose between what you enjoy and what you’re good at, you should follow what you’re good at. That idea stuck with me. For example, I enjoy cooking, but I don’t really care whether I’m great at it or not. Drawing and painting, on the other hand, have always felt exciting and natural to me, and that’s where I truly want to grow and master my skills.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Painters who would like to join me for outdoor painting sessions in Savannah are always welcome. I often organize these gatherings in the city’s parks, and they’ve become a space for creativity and exchange. I am also open to collaborating with artists from other disciplines, sharing ideas, and exchanging skills and services.
