Meet Alejandro Sanchez Ochoa

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alejandro Sanchez Ochoa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alejandro, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My strong work ethic comes from being raised by two incredible parents who sacrificed so much to give my siblings and me a chance at better opportunities. Throughout my ‘career jobs,’ I would often daydream about what it would be like to pursue photography full-time—it’s exactly what I had always wished for. As I continue this creative journey, I remind myself of where I came from and the challenges I’ve overcome to get here. I will never forget my roots or the obstacles that have shaped me.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m a freelance photographer based in Seattle, with 8 years of experience, and the last 3 years dedicated to working full-time. I love having the freedom and space to create what I feel called to, allowing me to capture moments across a diverse range of projects—from professional sports to fashion campaigns, editorial branding, and unique events. Every time someone books a shoot with me, I’m genuinely honored by their trust. My goal is always to bring their vision to life, with a big smile, friendly conversation, and plenty of laughs to ensure they feel completely comfortable.

As I move into the next phase of my journey, I’m excited to create a studio space that will foster community—hosting everything from galleries and listening parties to short film viewings and workshops. This is a huge step for me, as I continue to evolve creatively and embrace learning from all forms of artistic expression.

Ultimately, I’m working toward creating a space where I can fully immerse myself in the creative process—a place to craft photos and let my mind wander freely and get lost in inspiration.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities that have stood out to me the most are patience, gratitude, and perseverance. Life rarely unfolds the way we expect, and progress isn’t always a straight line. Learning to ride the wave—knowing when to push forward and when to wait—has been crucial to my success. It’s important to make space for stillness and use that time to visualize your next project. Keep refining your craft, whatever it may be, and always remain a student of what you love.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned early on is to make room for other creatives in your world. Don’t fear or envy their opportunities or skills; instead, repurpose those feelings into encouragement and learning. There’s so much to gain by supporting and learning from one another.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

One of the most impactful lessons my parents taught me was the true value of a dollar. They showed me that life isn’t about what you own or the things money can buy. Life is about the experiences you share and the emotions you get to feel. I live with gratitude and compassion, always mindful of where I could have been and how fortunate I am to have lived so much in just 30 years.
