Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alessandra Marconi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alessandra, thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?
One of my greatest desires in life is that people develop the ability to understand one another. Therefore, the way I relate stems from a curiosity to know how someone sees the world. Disagreements and fighting made me really uncomfortable as a child. I knew from a young age that if I wanted people to get along easier (less misunderstandings, more acceptance and support) then my ability to understand different points of view was the way to succeed. Empathy came easy to me and as I gained more life experience I realized that on top of understanding diverse ideas/beliefs, it was imperative that I had to accept them without judgement. This position proved to be most difficult in family matters and close relationships while being an admirable characteristic in social circles. The secret is to remain optimistic and very patient. Time has been my greatest teacher. There is no expiration date on effective communication and healing wounded relationships!
What I’ve found thus far is that one’s ability to communicate effectively is determined by how well they know themselves. When you respect yourself a sense of freedom is felt. In this state, you’re able to extend compassion towards others and release the expectations you may have on outcomes and results. You cannot control how someone will respond to what you say. But when you are clear with yourself, listening becomes genuine, speaking becomes benevolent and discernment is quickly revealed.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
In 2021 a friend asked me to teach a masterclass for college age students on how to navigate life and career in the dance industry and thank goodness I answered the call. Entertainment was the last sector to re-open after the pandemic lockdowns and artists of all ages were looking at a decimated landscape. What transpired from a 2 hour masterclass is now a small business called Inner Compass Atelier that helps people align who they are with what they do. It has a two semester curriculum, online classes, 1:1 guidance and is a guest seminar at national events. Creating Inner Compass has been such an empowering and soul-fueling project that continues to evolve and inspire new things (books, partnerships, classes +). Speaking of which, the best way to stay in touch is by subscribing to my mailing list at (www.alessandramarconi.com). I would love to welcome you into my network.
Before 2020, I was a full time freelance dancer and creative associate with shows like iLuminate (world tours), Phish (NYE at MSG), Hamilton, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (broadway) and more. I had been living and working in New York City since graduating from Marymount Manhattan College with a BA in Communication Arts and Journalism. I dreamt of this reality from a beautiful farmhouse where I grew up in Ohio. Looking back, I have endless gratitude for my family who spent many hours in the car driving me to competitions, workshops and daily classes after school.
As you now know, my native language is movement and while performing is no longer my priority, the act of designing a space has manifested in a new way. Inner Compass is the choreography of life where I infuse practical application with energetic wisdom. In addition to this, I’ve started practicing the art of home organizing with my former dance colleague’s business, Reflecting Spaces. I am so energized by this layer of purposeful living because it goes straight to the core. One’s home is a reflection of their inner life.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Two things (or more) can be true at once. (Be willing to challenge your own belief systems)
2. Your skills are often seen by others before you recognize them within you. (Check if your strict focus is limiting your potential).
3. The most powerful form of currency is your attention and presence. (Share it wisely!)

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Two things: They displayed a devotion to spiritual growth and curiosity to understand the meaning of life. And their continued love and support remains foundational to my personal success.
