Meet Alessandro Reinhart

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alessandro Reinhart. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alessandro , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

Ive asked myself that question a lot too. In a way I feel like it’s always been there, like I was born to be on some sort of stage, that I’ve been born to confidently stand on a stage or in front of a camera. But then I think back to myself as a child and I realise that I used to be a shy kid. And I think that shy kid is where my confidence was born. I started doing performances in differerent forms very early on in my life. And the first time I stood on that stage, the first time I sang in front of an audience, I understood how fulfilling those things are for me. I got more confident as the years progressed and that started translating into my real life as well. Nowadays, my confidence comes from exactly that – knowing that I have no reason to be ashamed of who I am and relying on what I know I do well.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I act. Thats what I love to do. It would be easy to say that it’s fun, but I think it is so much more than that. It’s almost hard to find the perfect word for it. Fulfilling? Essential to my being? At the end of the day I would say it is all encompassing, it is something that makes me whole as a person.

I started acting at a very young age – landing a role on what was supposed to be the biggest kids TV show of all time in Switzerland, but right after shooting the Pilot, the Channel got its funding cut and it was never made. But from there on I knew what I wanted to do – I had gotten the acting bug. Over the next few years I would audition for any role I could in that small country – TV skits, short films, the Few big Movies that get made a year, all while still going to school. A few years later I got a small part in the Opera “Wozzeck” at the Zürich opera house, where I was usually part of the children’s choir – an experience that changed a lot for me. For the first time I was on stage in front of a thousand people and for the first time I made real money. I already knew acting was the path for me and slowly I started realising it was possible.

After a few more Short Films that made the rounds internationally like Diana Freis “Last Days” and a few Collaborations with the highly renowned Director Ivan Engler, including the multi – media project “Dietegen” I knew it was time to really learn how to act – and so the next thing I did was apply to the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York.

Over the 2 years that I spent there, I learned the most I ever did about acting, completely changed my perspective on almost everything and really discovered my love for Theatre. Always being surrounded by other creatives in a city like New York was a wonderful experience as well. And so after graduating I decided to chase my dreams in the big city like so many before me and after only a few months I landed a role in a production of Romeo and Juliet, which once again gave me a glimpse into the world I now know is possible.

Really my whole Career has always been lifting me to the next level, giving ecstatic moments that reassure me that I’ve been on the right path my whole life.

Right now I am working on a few projects that are surely to be announced soon, having also dipped my toe into writing with short Films such as “Pinot Noir” (2021) and “Take a look at you” (2022)

The world around me and the path im on keep inspiring me and I love every part of it, whether it be learning, auditioning, rehearsal and of course – performing. I love slipping into different characters and bringing my own experience into everything I do.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

One of my most important Qualities has to be my resilience. This is really something I had to develop over the years. Its not always easy, sometimes you wait around for months and nothing good seems to happen but I never give up and it always pays off – I really believe that good things come to those who keep at it, work hard and have patience. There have been so many times where I could’ve given up right before the next opportunity came around.

Another thing- totally different but also incredibly useful, especially for actors is my Language skills. I speak 4 Languages and I read a lot to always stay knowledgable and expand my vocabulary and writing skills. I think being able to speak eloquently and really communicate my ideas has helped me in many rooms that I’ve been in. It’s helped me become a writer which has also opened so many doors for me and is increasingly important in today’s media landscape. The more things you can do the better. I can only recommend anyone to learn a different language, to stay educated even after school, to always strive to learn more about the thing you do and about the world we live in, it helps both in career and life.

But I think my most important Quality and It sort of ties into my second point is my interest in almost anything. I can get excited about so many things, talk about almost any topic and try everything at least once. Ive done Karate, Tennis, Soccer, I’ve made Music, have written short Stories and Scripts, Ive studied deeply the History of this world, Ive dove into Science and have acquired skills in almost every creative field, traveled to many different places and by age 13 had probably read more books than both of my Parents in their lives combined. Always widening my Horizon and being knowledgeable on so many things and staying active has opened so many doors and most importantly, keeps me creative. With an interest in so many thing, the next good idea, the next Piece of inspiration for a performance or a script is never far. I can only recommend to anyone to try as many things as they can, especially creative people like me. Pick up that book. Take that trip. Do that Sport. Learn that new skill. You won’t regret it.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

It sounds Clichee to say, but my Mother has been so helpful all my life but especially over the past year. Earlier this year I was on the brink of giving up and she gave me one single piece of wisdom that as now enabled me to keep going and to do what I love. At the time I was very upset because I hadn’t had a single big project in many months and was about to move back home. My mother simply told me : “If you leave now, you will regret it for the rest of your life. You can always give up, but now is not the time. It’s better to have tried and failed than to never have tried at all.” It sounds so simple and it is, but that is what I needed to hear at the time , and only a few weeks later, I landed a role in a production of “Romeo and Juliet” that changed everything for me.
