Meet Alex Blair

We were lucky to catch up with Alex Blair recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex , appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?

My self-discipline stems from my desire to be successful, healthy, and good looking. Self-discipline is not a physical place you can discover; rather, it is a skill that can be developed through various practices and strategies. It involves the ability to focus on long-term goals, resist impulses, and stay motivated even in the face of challenges. Building self-discipline requires consistent effort and a willingness to change your behaviors.

The motivation to improve often arises from the realization that your current approach is not effective. Ignoring your problems typically allows them to worsen, and trying to be disciplined without genuine commitment can lead to feelings of inadequacy.

Consider self-discipline as a superpower: it is a crucial skill to cultivate, yet many people do not know where to start.

With that in mind, you can begin telling yourself that you will:

– Take small actions to improve your situation.
– Push yourself slightly outside of your comfort zone to improve over time.
– In order to develop this vital skill- push yourself to get better over time.
– Practice self-discipline consistently.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am the owner and CEO of Heels and Horsepower. I was born and raised in Fortaleza, Brazil.

In 2022, I took over ownership of Heels and Horsepower to unite like-minded women through friendship and enable them to showcase their love, appreciation, and knowledge of all things automotive. We are a members-only car club. Our club hosts two to four official events and a few pop-ups across Houston’s Uptown and River Oaks neighborhoods yearly. We have two membership levels, Personal and Concierge, although all members are guided by our rules and regulations handbook. Prospect members are accepted following an existing member’s referral and an application submitted through our website. I plan on expanding the business nationwide through a franchise and merchandise line. Our next event is a summer trip to Dallas at the beginning of August.

What I’m most proud and excited about H&H is that it creates instant communities among our members. We are bound by friendship and support each other.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My discipline, perseverance, gratitude, and positivity were the most impactful qualities in my journey.

Set aside time for yourself to cultivate gratitude and set meaningful goals. Establish your own guidelines and write down what you envision for your future, similar to a chapter in a book.

People often believe that major life transformations happen through one big breakthrough – a lucky break, a sudden opportunity, or an overnight success. But that’s an illusion. It’s not the massive efforts that reshape your future but the small, seemingly insignificant daily decisions you make.

Success is also a victory, but failure isn’t necessarily a negative experience. Regardless of the outcome, view it as an opportunity to learn, grow, and improve. Keep going, no matter what, because giving up will only hurt you more.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

I would stay away from social media and focus on truly living life and continuing to travel with my amazing husband, Mark. I want to visit new continents and experience different cultures. Riding in a hot air balloon is on my bucket list. Supporting my community remains important to me.

I would like to move to a beach town where I could swim in the ocean daily, ride horses along the shore, and sleep under the stars. I also want to spend more quality time with my wonderful children, Alice and James.
