We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alex Duvall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alex below.
Hi Alex, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
It was instilled in me from an early age that people were inherently good and had value. If God sees us as unique, valuable, important individuals to love, then we should see each other that way, too. I think the crux of Christianity, down to the most basic concept, is that we are to love each other because God first loved us. You can sort of sum up most of the human condition with that basic principle. So…the way our team at Many Parts, One Body loves people is to make sure they’re well fed. That’s our love language.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Last August, I launched Many Parts, One Body as a project of sorts with my wife and two of our dearest friends: Matt and Heidee Hakes. Matt and I had felt for a while that we were being called to service, and while we both knew what kind of service we were being called to, we weren’t exactly sure how we were supposed to go about it. At some point, Matt posed the question, “What’s stopping us from doing SOMETHING?” Thats when MPOB was born, from the idea that we could start small and see what God had in store for us from there.
This year we have served nearly 10,000 meals to members of our community, launched a “Servant Leadership Academy” to get kids involved volunteering with us, and have doubled the efforts of our Christmas Dinner Drive in December.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the first quality that comes to mind is love. It all starts there. It sounds a bit corny, I’m sure, but I’m not positive you can successfully serve folks without a level of love in your heart. It’s the driving force behind everything we do. Love for our God, love for our neighbors, and love for ourselves, really.
Another quality that I think about that we couldn’t operate without is empathy. We all know what it’s like to struggle on some level. No matter the scales, everyone has had a moment in their life where all they wanted is desperately to be seen and heard. That’s kind of what we’re providing folks, in a way. We see you, we hear you, and we’re here to help however we can.
I grew up in a family that was constantly involved in fundraisers, benefits, etc. I don’t think I could’ve pulled any of this off without that experience. Understanding what people’s needs are, how to assist them, and how to physically raise funds to make it possible is an important part of the process.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The senior pastor at Church of the Resurrection in Leawood is a man named Adam Hamilton. He wrote a book about the Apostle Paul titled “The Call.” In the book, Adam breaks down the historicity of Paul’s life, missionary journeys, and death. There’s a nugget that Adam includes in the book that includes this piece of information:
Over a decade passed between Saul of Tarsus’ “Road to Demascus” moment and the Apostle Paul’s first missionary journey. Even after Christ revealed himself to Saul, it took Saul over 10 years to get on the road to Asia Minor and Europe.
In life, there will be moments when we feel like it’s time to get going. It’s important to remember that the greatest ambassador that the Church has ever had didn’t even get started right away. It’s okay to prepare yourself, to be patient, and await your time to do God’s work on earth.
