Meet Alex Forbes

We recently connected with Alex Forbes and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I come from a family full of artists and musicians- so I was always surrounded by it as a kid. As I grew up I never stopped playing guitar and writing songs, but I did forget my dreams of playing original music for people in a professional setting. However, upon leaving the Army in 2022, I found it very hard to transition back to normal life. At one point it felt like music was all I had, so I stuck with it. After writing our debut album “HOMESICK”, I knew I didn’t want to do anything else with my life but write more, and share my music with everyone.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I started Summer of Peril in May of 2023 as a solo passion project, after gathering years worth of lyrics and riffs, and compiling them into what would become our debut album “HOMESICK”. After releasing my first demo, “Summer ‘08”, I was joined by Matt Lopez of Lucked Out, who helped kick start Summer of Peril as a newly founded Colorado band. Our main focus is and has always been to use music as a way to reach out to those who have faced the same struggles in life as we have.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Creativity, self discipline, and patience have been key factors in getting where we are now. You can write and play music all day long, but if you don’t have the self discipline to practice, rehearse, and be patient for opportunities to come to you- things start to fall apart.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?

I think following your strengths in order to work around your weaknesses can be a unique approach to originality. Instead of forcing yourself to do something a tried and true way, finding your own path can make you stand out in a good way. With that being said, I do try my best to work through weaknesses to become as well rounded as I can.
