Meet Alex Joseph Pires

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alex Joseph Pires. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alex Joseph below.

Alex Joseph, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?

I start every morning with a 10-15 minute yoga routine and meditation, I try to get a massage and/or to the spa once a month, I stay off social media as much as I can and I manifest my desires. All making me feel more balanced and capable of handling what the universe throws at me. You need to put your own oxygen mask on first right?

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’ve been acting professionally for almost 13 years and producing basically just as long. There’s a magic to filmmaking and story telling that is unparalleled for me. The closest thing to giving me as much joy is traveling. Probably because I’m literally being transported and experiencing something new and exciting. Making people laugh and think about things from a different perspective is extremely powerful and I strive to do at least one in all my work. In addition to finishing the tail end of a festival run for my latest dark comedy short film, Last Night With the Devil, I’m developing a dramedy feature film that will heavily feature my Cape Verdean culture.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. It’s great if you’re starting with some natural talent although plenty don’t and just build the necessary skills to be successful.

2. Have a vision and do everything you can to execute it. YouTube is your friend.

3. Don’t neglect the networking and the business side of things. It’s the part I’m least comfortable with but it’s arguably the most important if you want to be financially successful.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m looking for any and all passionate people who are tired of the Hollywood machine which is run by Wall Street and Tech, to join forces and tell stories we can be proud of. Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been in the biz for decades, let’s have a conversation and maybe make some magic happen.
