Meet Alex “LogiKIL” Torres

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alex “LogiKIL” Torres. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alex “LogiKIL” below.

Hi Alex “LogiKIL”, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Let’s look at the definition of resilience. Resilience is defined as “The capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.” To be honest, I get this from my parents. From early on in my childhood I witnessed my mother find and run her own nail business. I remember being with her late on school nights and helping her paint new locations when she was forced to move shops, me and brother making a game out of it and having fun in the process. Nothing ever slowed her down, when one door closed she kicked another open; no questions asked. She also advocated heavily for us in a school system that was setting us up to fail. My father also taught me resilience with one simple expression – “Don’t stress what you can’t control”. I live with that saying to this day. When things don’t go my way and I know for a fact that I did everything in power, I let it go and move on. Easier said than done, but dwelling on it will only delay my next endeavor. My father is a classic example of this. From working overtime to provide for his family to adapting to his situation during their divorce; he took life on chin and didn’t allow things out of his control to get him down. That’s resilience right there.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Simply put, I am a Hip-Hop artist from the city of Hartford, CT. My music tends to a be combination of memories, thoughts, aggression, ventilation and passion mixed with battle rap elements. I started off as a text battle rapper on an internet rap forum called Rap Cityz. Yes, you read that correctly, a text rapper. We did everything on text which things more difficult because your punchlines had to be extra sharp to hit their mark without cadence and delivery to back you. This eventually peaked my curiosity into getting on the microphone which also led to me teaching myself how to mix with the help of my boy Reesun from Rap Cityz. We used our ears and tried to match what he heard on the radio and it worked!

In addition to being an artist, I’m also an established audio engineer. My most notable credit would be working on Akon’s Akonda project with my mentor Matthew Weiss. I graduated Magnum Cum Laude from the University Of Hartford with a BS in Audio Engineering and Music Production.

The most exciting thing about what I do is the feeling of bringing an idea, a seed, to life! From its inception as a thought the final mastered version of a full fledge song. I swear it’s closest thing I’ll get to experiencing child birth lol. It’s an amazingly challenging and sometimes frustrating process, but in the end, when all of the chaos collides into something beautiful, it makes it all worthwhile. I also love witnessing peoples’ reactions to my music and seeing if my point hit home. Nothing beats that.

As of late, I’ve been focusing more on honing my craft as an artist and making what I WANT to make. I’ve spent so many years trying to follow trends that I eventually lost myself. Breaking free from that road led to making my new album titled K.I.L 2. It’s a sequel to my mixtape K.I.L that put me on the map as a teen. It’s a self titled album and it encompasses all of me, the good, bad and the ugly. And I loved every part of making it. With production from my brother Auspiddit, we hit the nail on the head with this one. There were no bars wasted and no lines uncrossed, it’s all on there. To help promote the album, be on the look out for me on more podcasts and radio platforms, it’s GO TIME!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Passion. 2. Discipline. 3. Devotion.

Passion represents the fire raging inside of me. The 3000lb chip on my shoulder. The feeling of always having to prove myself and earn every second of attention I get. It’s the dog that’s constantly being backed into a corner, waiting for the right moment to bite. It’s knowing the pain of defeat and embracing it, making victory that much more sweet. It’s my competitive spirit and the drive to push myself to be the best!

Discipline comes in when motivation dips, shameless Mike Tyson reference. I’m not always motivated to post on social media and do all of the other non-music things that come with being an artist, but discipline is what allows me to hold myself accountable. GET IT DONE!

Devotion represents the love I have for my craft. Without it, I those 10,000 hours spent practicing would’ve never been completed. You have to love what you do in order to do what you love.

If I have any advice for people who are early on their journey it would be this, in this wise words of Napoleon Hill “Winners Never Quit, and Quitters Never Win”. The day you quit is the day you actually fail. There are no L’s, only lessons. It’s your choice to learn from them or let them stop you. Run your own race, use others to motivate but don’t let envy win. Every real one gets a turn, be patient and it’ll come. Believe that.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The 50th Law by Robert Greene and 50 Cent. Robert Greene is a legend and I’ve read his other books, but in this one he studied 50 Cent and analyzed fear, or 50’s lack there of. It’s an astounding book as it looks into 50’s fearless decision making in the music industry and how you can apply them to your journey. Of course, me being a rapper as well, it hit home!
