Meet Alexa Castillo

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexa Castillo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alexa, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My work ethic comes from a combination of my interests/passion and personal beliefs. My small business’ foundation is built on my personal beliefs which fuels my passion for the work that I do, the collections I create and the people that I meet. I believe I am motivated to work for the simple fact that I felt called to do it and I love what I do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I own a small business where I design and curate faith based collections of children’s and women’s clothing and accessories. I have always loved designing clothing and felt called to use that gift and combine it with my faith to help spread the Word of God. It’s special as the business is more than just sales, it’s about community. The business has allowed me to meet so many amazing people online and at events which has sparked meaningful conversations which lead to friendships, growth and a stronger relationship with God.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three qualities most impactful on my journey as a small business owner have been perseverance, authenticity and staying positive. Nothing great comes easy (or fast) and there will always be ups and downs along the way but it’s important to be persistent when things get difficult, remind yourself of your goal and your why again and again, stay true to yourself and don’t alter from that and keep a positive attitude along the way.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

As my business and brand follow my personal beliefs, I turn to God in prayer when I am feeling overwhelmed. I think it’s important to acknowledge your feelings rather than ignore them as it can lead to set backs in your business. I also have a trusted group of friends who understand the pressures and obstacles of owning a small business who I can go to for support and encouragement which is super important and helpful.
