Meet Alexa Ortega Kuhlman

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexa Ortega Kuhlman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alexa , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

My optimism comes from the love of my life, my husband, Daniel. I have witnessed him go through multiple hardships and he has overcome every hardship with compassion, humility, hope and strength. Daniel lost him mother to breast cancer more than two years ago. He personally cared for her until her last days. His resilience, care for others and big heart inspire me to be optimistic despite the circumstances. Daniel is a brilliant writer and actor and he uses film making as a way to express himself. I’m very proud of his latest creation. He wrote and produced a horror movie titled “The Remedy” which is very loosely based on his personal experiences caring for his mom.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Alexa. Yes, like the Amazon. I am a producer (specifically one of the executive producers for our upcoming feature film “The Remedy”.)

I believe in creating your own opportunities versus waiting for opportunities to come your way. My husband owns a production company Breakwall Pictures and is a brilliant writer and actor. He created “The Remedy” and we are both acting in it.

Outside of movie-making, I work as a facilitator for a leadership company. I absolutely love what I do and the people I work with.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The qualities that have served me on my journey thus far are: authenticity, tenacity and compassion. For anyone in the entertainment industry my advice would be: work hard at getting great at your craft, be patient, show up every single day despite all the no’s and remember your WHY. Lastly, be grateful for the people who have helped you along the way because you wouldn’t be where you are without others.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

Klemmer leadership has been the most helpful in equipping my husband and I with tools to overcome challenges. Through their training we have learned to be quality-driven versus circumstance-driven and because of that we have been able to create lives by our design.
