We recently connected with Alexa Pavan and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexa, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I wish I could pin down one moment, but in reality it’s been a slow build my whole life. Through playing in the dirt and plunging into the ocean strapped into bulky scuba gear and courses and people and places, that have, in my opinion, presented a large lens of which I view my life. Through Nature. It’s a long winded way of saying I fiercely adore the great outdoors and I hope to dedicate my life to its preservation. Right now, I’m doing that by fulfilling two childhood dreams at once, being a writer and doing it on my own terms.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a sustainability copywriter and content creator. Mostly, I write and strategize marketing for environmentally sustainable brands and nonprofits. Writing things like social media captions, emails, blog posts, and website copy to create a marketing funnel for retainer or project-based clients. However, I don’t do this alone, I do it alongside a group of creatives called Conscious Content Clips. Each of us work in our own “zone of genius” and collaborate to create short-form and long-form media, email campaigns, and more importantly, easily digestible content with a purpose.
Just this year, I have expanded to creating my own content and brand focused on lifestyle with an emphasis on sustainability. I fully embrace imperfect sustainability and invite others to join me, not only to lessen our burden on our environment, but to live a fulfilling life centered around nature. I do this by creating content that inspires and drives action, understanding that sustainability looks different for everyone. With this and my marketing knowledge, I make product recommendations based on things we all are purchasing anyway, toiletries like deodorant, sunscreen, shampoo/conditioner, etc. I also recommend services that I’m aligned with like community composting. I’m proud of the businesses I have chosen to work with and hope to maintain that, but I’m not afraid to change my mind about a brand or partnership. What we put in and on our bodies is a huge part of the sustainability journey, making better choices to consider the health of not only our planet, but for humans as well.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
On the journey of finding my purpose, if I had to pick, the most important qualities have been curiosity, honesty, and tenacity. For curiosity, you have to be willing to answer the call of what pulls you, something that intrigues you is begging to be noticed. Let yourself dive deeply into the unknown, get swallowed by it, and most likely, move on from it. Nurture the enthusiasm, but don’t be swayed, don’t be afraid to continue along the path. With honesty, you have to be unabashedly real with yourself. You can’t hide from number one and if you do, life feels very chaotic, even misaligned. Be honest about what you want, no matter how ridiculous it sounds to others or even yourself. Start by holding yourself accountable by building trust. When you say you’re going to do something, actually do it, follow through. Build it up by starting with easy five-minute tasks and move into bigger actions. Tenacity is going to come from sheer will and the other two qualities. You can’t be tenacious without being honest with yourself. Curiosity in itself demands a certain level of tenacity, an unwavering pursuit of anything that lights you up or piques intrigue. Tenacity comes from passion and vigor to continue down an unknown path for the thrill of it.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always looking to create collaborative partnerships with like minded individuals, businesses, and organizations. Like minded in the sense that we want to educate the public through a no-shame lens of environmental consciousness. As a marketer and copywriter, I’m looking to support businesses that actually drive environmental awareness and mean what they say, no greenwashing (or blue washing) around here. Our mission at Conscious Content Clips is to take the work of promotion off the plate of sustainable business owners who are already stretched thin from their own missions. We work to represent your business, while simultaneously educating and engaging your audience.
