We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexander “Al Mega” Perez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexander “Al Mega” below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Al Mega with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you got it from?
Growing up, all I had were examples of hardworking people around me, such as my parents, aunts, and uncles. They had day jobs and hustled to make side money using their talents and skills, whether it be carpentry, sales, cleaning, etc…. Unfortunately, if you are Latin and into the arts, at least in my day, it wasn’t seen as a viable/livable career. It was not real to them. We know better now. That pushed me to do something different, especially being the first of my family to be raised outside of Puerto Rico.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself.
In this phase/part of my career, I continue to use the brand that I created, Comic Crusaders, to elevate the voices of content creators from all walks of life. Artists, musicians, actors, producers, etc… I find great joy in hearing directly about their journeys, their current projects, and what the future may hold. I love being able to show genuine excitement over new projects, and seeing the faces of the creators as I express my joy and support in their product is priceless! This has also led me to want to provide consultation to content creators. Soon enough, using all the bridges I’ve built, I will be working to help creators find a home for their projects & more….
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Wow, great question. As a hard-headed Taurus man, lol, I think being stubborn was definitely a good quality to have. Why? Because my stubbornness didn’t allow me to give up! It forced me into a position where I had to go out there and learn new skills, improve others so I can be the best version of myself as the leader of CC to help my team grow! Second is being genuine. Go for it. Don’t ever let anyone say anything different, but be real, be you. Do things with a genuine intent to help (hopefully, positive), and the rewards will come! Lastly, know when you need help. Just like it takes a village to raise children, it takes an amazing team to build your brand! Always follow your gut and heart, and you’ll reap the rewards!
If you are early in your career as a leader, seek guidance. Many business leaders would take a moment to answer an email. I know, speaking for myself, that when I get questions in a DM or inbox, I take the time to reply. If this person took the time to reach out to me, it means they find value in what I have. It’s a compliment. We are not here to compete. There is enough for EVERYONE to eat!
If you are a content creator, PLEASE, reach out to media with a press release, market on social media, find a team (if applicable). Do not be shy! Just go for it
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go, we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collaborate with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am ALWAYS looking for collaborative partners. The ideal collaborator for Comic Crusaders would be someone who shares our passion for independent and small press comics and media and has a deep understanding and appreciation of the diverse aspects of pop culture beyond the mainstream. This collaborator should have experience and knowledge in comics journalism and be able to contribute unique perspectives and insights to the brand.
I truly believe that together, as opposed to separately, we can achieve greatness. If you make it as a team member, the potential is limitless. In the time I’ve done this, I’ve had team members move on to become writers, publishers, artists, and more.
