We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexander Blanco. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexander below.
Alexander , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Confidence has been my Achilles heel for a long time, and working on holding myself in high esteem is still a work in progress, but I’m making strides every day. I feel that in a lot of scenarios, my social anxiety has amplified my insecurities in moments where I need to show confidence and the best way I’ve learned to combat that feeling is by shifting my mindset to look at the people around me differently. At the end of the day, we are all experiencing this life for the first time so while I give the people around me the benefit of the doubt, I have also learned to remind myself to give myself that same virtue. It evens out the playing field in my head and gives me self-assurance, and though it’s in my nature to be humble, having a balance between both confidence and humility highlights the person I want people to perceive me to be.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Alexander Blanco, I am an artist from Long Beach, CA who has been pursuing his musical/artistic career for nearly a decade now. I label myself as an independent artist with a wide variety of tastes in music and creative outlets, so much so that even sometimes I can’t focus on one. Now I have collected myself and have been putting the majority of my time and energy into my music. Currently, I am finishing an EP that I plan to release in the next year of 2025 which has been a very fulfilling endeavor. Throughout my life, I have always shown support for those around me and would put aside my personal goals to assist others in theirs. I love to help people, especially my friends and comrades but as I get older I realize that I need to help myself to not only accomplish what I want in life but also in hopes to better reinforce the goals of those I surround myself with. I am confident that I can make this daydream my reality and as the world changes drastically, for better or for worse, I know to stay true to myself so I can overcome the obstacles that will come my way.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that I find to be the most impactful in my life are kindness, will, and attentiveness. These traits have always propelled me forward in the things I desire to accomplish, all of them benefiting my interactions with people setting a good first impression, and following through with continued effort to retain that relationship. I feel like many newcomers to the artist scene underestimate how powerful networking is and prioritize the craft over building a community around themselves, establishing a good character will make it easy to make connections that others can rely on and could maybe flourish into a line of support that will help boost whatever content or idea you are trying to convey. I wouldn’t be where I am without the people I’ve met along the way, so don’t neglect your circles.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
I believe in reinforcing your weak spots because you never know when you’ll be caught off guard. It’s impossible to know what will come ahead and how you’ll be tested, and honestly, you can never really prepare for what life has to throw at you but understanding your weaknesses is the first step to being prepared. Accepting inadequacy will allow you to better yourself, and at a steady pace strengthening your weaknesses slowly will build strengths in your character as a whole. Sticking to your strengths keeps you comfortable and personally, that sounds boring. I’d rather be a well-rounded individual who knows how to take risks and suck at something for a bit than be a one-trick pony who is amazing at that one thing but has prepared no other path for themselves to fall back on in the case that the one thing they can do burns out.
I have a friend whose entire life focused on school and pursuing their education, and for the most part, this kept them busy up until the point of graduation. They expressed to me that after completing their degree they didn’t what else to do, and outside of homework and school activities they didn’t have any hobbies or interests, so they felt lost and unproductive. This is an occurrence that I feel most people go through in their young adulthood. They dedicate their lives to a single practice, spearheading what’s in front of them, but then they accomplish their goal and there’s nothing else they can see on the horizon. At that point, they are as the saying goes, up the creek without a paddle, except in this scenario you do have a paddle but the stream of water has led to a directionless ocean. I like to take detours which keeps me moving in some direction, and I trust I’ll land where I am supposed to.
