We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexander Geht a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alexander, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Finding my purpose has been a deeply personal journey that ties back to my upbringing in a modest, yet deeply empathetic family. Growing up, survival was often at the forefront of my mind, and I keenly felt the frustration of not having access to what I needed. This experience planted a seed in me—an understanding of the importance of having the right tools and resources, especially for those who are often overlooked.
I was fortunate enough to be accepted into Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, one of the most prestigious institutions for industrial design. Even today, I feel honored and privileged to have been a part of that environment. Industrial design is a broad field, spanning from artistic expression to life-saving innovations. From the very beginning, I knew that I wasn’t drawn to styling or making products more aesthetically pleasing. My passion lay in solving complex, real-life problems.
It was during my second year that I began volunteering and working with people with disabilities. I saw firsthand the challenges they faced and the lack of products available to meet their needs. The pivotal moment for me came when I was working in a children’s hospital, collaborating with therapists who were helping children achieve basic milestones like walking and sitting. The sight of these kids, who were battling against so many odds, trying to use equipment that was far from well-designed, was heartbreaking. It struck a deep chord within me, seeing the pain and struggle not just of the children, but also of their parents, who were on this incredibly difficult journey with them.
That was the moment I truly found my purpose. With the skills I had developed, I realized I could design and manufacture products that could make a real difference in the lives of those who needed them most. This realization has driven every decision I’ve made since, guiding me to create solutions that empower children with disabilities and support their families in meaningful ways.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Alexander Geht, the founder of Testa-Seat, a company that’s all about breaking down barriers by creating innovative and affordable seating solutions for children with physical disabilities. My journey into this field started with a deep passion for solving real-world problems through design and technology, especially for those who often don’t get the attention they deserve.
Testa-Seat came to life because I saw a huge gap in the market for adaptive seating systems. I realized that these seats needed to be more than just functional—they had to be comfortable, stylish, and, most importantly, empowering for both children and their families. What excites me the most about Testa-Seat is our commitment to combining empathy with advanced technology. We use 3D printing and other cutting-edge methods to create custom seats that truly meet each child’s unique needs. Our seats are lightweight, water resistance, easy to clean, and designed to be flexible, giving parents more freedom and kids more opportunities to engage with the world around them.
Every product we create is a step towards giving children with disabilities and their families more chances to explore, play, and grow. This isn’t just about making a product; it’s about changing the mindset that basic needs like seating should be accessible to everyone, not just a privilege for some.
Lately, we’ve been working hard to expand our reach and get Testa-Seat into more hands. We’ve already delivered our products to physical therapy centers and children’s hospitals, and the feedback has been amazing. Now, we need your help to spread the word and connect us with leading therapy and early intervention centers.
We’re also exploring partnerships to help us make an even bigger impact, making our seating solutions available to more children worldwide. We dream of a future where our seats are not just in homes and therapy centers, but also in public spaces like restaurants, cinemas, and sports arenas—anywhere that families go, where they should feel welcome and accommodated. If you share this vision, we’d love to work together.
At the core of everything we do is the belief that well-designed equipment can truly change the lives of children with disabilities and their families. It’s an honor to use my skills to contribute to this cause, to see kids smile, and to hear the positive feedback from parents and therapists. I’m incredibly excited about what’s next for Testa-Seat, and I’m thankful for every chance to make a difference.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Empathy has been at the heart of everything I do. It’s what drives me to understand the real needs of the children and families we serve at Testa-Seat. To anyone early in their journey, I’d say: take the time to truly understand the people you’re designing for or working with. Put yourself in their shoes, listen to their stories, and let that understanding guide your work. Empathy isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s essential for creating solutions that genuinely make a difference.
Resilience is another quality that’s been crucial. The path to creating something meaningful isn’t smooth. There will be setbacks, challenges, and moments of doubt. But resilience—being able to pick yourself up, learn from failures, and keep moving forward—is what will carry you through. My advice? Don’t be afraid of failure. See it as a learning opportunity, and remember that every step, even the difficult ones, brings you closer to your goal.
Lastly, networking and creating meaningful relationships has been crucial. Without building a strong network of supportive and like-minded individuals, Testa-Seat would never have come to life. Developing a product in this field is both complicated and complex—you need people who believe in you, trust your vision, and are confident that you can execute it. In many ways, the relationships you build can be even more important than the skills you develop.
My advice to those early in their journey is to invest time in forging deep relationships. Connect with people who share your passions but bring different skills to the table. Seek out mentors who can guide you to the next stage of your journey, and always be open to collaborations. Surround yourself with those who inspire you and challenge you to grow. These relationships will become a powerful source of strength and opportunity as you navigate your path.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We are actively seeking partners and collaborators who share our vision and passion for making a real difference in the lives of children with disabilities. Specifically, we are eager to connect with:
Leading pediatric professionals who recognize the significant gap in seating solutions and are dedicated to improving the lives of children. If you are passionate about preventing complications and creating more opportunities for these kids, we would love to collaborate with you.
Airlines, cinemas, restaurants, parks, schools, furniture companies, and corporations that are committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). We would love to work together to provide greater accessibility for families, ensuring that all spaces are welcoming and accommodating.
Parents of children with special seating needs who are willing to advocate and demonstrate the necessity of these products in daily life. Your firsthand experience and insights are invaluable in showing the real impact that these solutions can have.
Impact investors and programs who understand that our mission goes far beyond profit. We may not fit the mold for traditional VC funding, but we firmly believe in the transformative power of our work. If you are an investor driven by making a meaningful difference in people’s lives, we would be thrilled to connect with you.
Passionate individuals in marketing, sales, or management who share our values and are excited about the opportunity to grow with us. While we are operating on lean funding, we are looking for team members who are dedicated to our cause and eager to contribute to something truly meaningful.
If you are interested in partnering with us—whether as a professional, parent, business, investor, or potential team member—please reach out. We are always open to new ideas and collaborations that can help us move closer to our goal of making the world a more inclusive place for children with disabilities.
