Meet Alexander Helisek

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexander Helisek a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alexander, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

A lot of people would ask the question, “If you could tell your younger self something, what would it be” and I think many people think about that question and then retrace what they’ve done in life, and I would include myself in that group, and I realize now that I have done everything that I’ve wanted to do, because I’ve wanted to do it.

When I went away to college, I picked a place as far from Long Island in the SUNY system as I could, because I wanted to, when I finished college and had dreams of moving to Los Angeles and pursue entertainment, I did it because I wanted to, when I started my entertainment media outlet because I wanted to dive into the exciting events and premieres within the industry, I did it because I wanted to, and people joined me along the way, because they wanted to do that also and join me in the journey of life.

Confidence and Self-Esteem boil down to doing things that you want to do, because doing those things give you the drive, energy, charisma, and motivation as it is the direction you are called to go. I continue to do these things, because if it’s something I want to do, then I know I will do it will, have heart in it, and do the best I possibly I can to achieve those goals.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Breezeway Productions, maybe you’ve seen some of the work they’ve done or, if not, you should go and look up the interviews which are shown focusing on the latest in independent films and film festival news, as the outlet continues to go to film festivals around the globe speaking with the most influential and interesting entertainment figures of present day.

Breezeway has been covering premieres, junkets, and entertainment events for over 13 years, and was created in Los Angeles in 2012. You can find the work on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook, as well as the website www.breezewayproductions.com

On the other side of the coin I work as an Actor in various film and television projects since joining SAG-AFTRA back in 2012. Some of the productions I have been proud to be a part of are Silicon Valley, The Last Ship, How To Get Away With Murder, Daredevil, Oppenheimer, Interstellar, and 2 Broke Girls.

I have also been blessed with creating various independent film projects with my friend and colleagues, Josh Mitchell and Nathan Paul, including The Convicted, All My Brothers, and Lack of Cockery in the role of being a Producer.

Most recently, Breezeway has covered the 2025 edition of The Tribeca Film Festival, where we attended over 15 red carpet premieres of the latest documentaries, narratives, and new media projects.

The next two events lined up for coverage are AnimeNYC at the Jacob Javitz Center at the end of August, and then The Toronto International Film Festival in the beginning of September.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Resilience is the most important quality to anyone who has ever been successful, and did it themselves with building a brand they imagined from the beginning, because you will be denied, stepped on, betrayed, and lied to countless times along the journey to being successful, it just depends on how resilient you can be to keep pushing forward.

Aside from that quality of determination, I believe that studying up on your field of interest is something that is also a dire necessity. This would be awareness to what is happening in your business, so make sure to read the trades (in Entertainment it would be Variety, Hollywood Reporter, The Wrap, Indiewire) and see what other journalists are covering.

However, if you are looking for the path less travelled, which can also bare fruit in the business, is to give a spotlight to the films in which other journalists are not covering, this can be a great key to building your brand and getting coverage off the ground.

Also, as I’ve told my students I’ve taught when I was a teacher at Stony Brook University, never be afraid to send the email to whomever you are looking to connect with. Take the first step, do the outreach, give things a shot, because if you have to gamble on anything, your future and success of your entraprenurial endeavor count on it.

After 37 years, I still, deep down, believe that anything is possible, depending on how you position yourself, prepare yourself, and give everything all you have all the time. Also, to have a circle of people around you who support your cause, your drive, and things you believe in helps to keep your head on your shoulders and not up in the clouds all the time.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’m always looking to meet with people who are interested in collaborating, which has been the great part about being in a business that involves all different kinds of people from all walks of life, and with different fields of interest as well.

The people that I am currently looking for are those which can elevate the brand to the next level of exposure, those who can increase the SEO of the company, and the work that is done can be seen by more people.

We are also looking for advertiser/brand managers who would be interested in sponsoring some of the content which we create, so the audiences we do have can get exposure to different types of products.

We are also looking for individuals who are interested in hosting/producing this event coverage as well, this can be in various territories which are hosting global engaging events.

Many individuals who have worked with Breezeway have gone on to great things, so at present I look at Breezeway as a strong launchpad for hosts and journalists.

I can think about my friend and colleague Jorge Ventura, whom when I met him was still in college and was attending/covering Politicon in Los Angeles, a bi-partisan political convention that had top tier political characters in attendance to give speeches and have debates. As I was offered events from publicists, I always kept Jorge in mind whenever there was a political film or event that we were invited to, and one came along that I felt was perfect for him, in which he hosted for the outlet and did a tremendous job. flash forward to today, he is a hardworking journalist for NewsNation, doing what he loves everyday, and that is the dream right there.

Results are shown from hard work, determination, and consistency.
