Meet Alexander Hoggard

We were lucky to catch up with Alexander Hoggard recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexander, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I often realize that, while I admit to being resilient as a person, resilience is not something that accompanies me on a day-to-day basis. What I mean by this is that I would like to clarify that resilience is not something we can summon daily, like anger or bravery. It is something that reveals itself over time in the face of hardship and determination. Being a freelancer and a self-employed business owner requires resilience, especially when others are relying on you. Without it, both you and they simply would not survive. For myself, specifically as a wedding videographer, there are entire months within the year when I simply do not have enough work, or not enough work for that matter. Without resilience, I simply could not support myself or my family until the next wedding season. Resilience is something I do not believe is universal, but rather acquired through an instilled work ethic and trained morals. When you commit to something, whether it’s your family, your business, or even your personal goals, and tragedy strikes, resilience finds you and keeps you moving forward. Your work ethic simply does not allow you the option to just give up.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I specialize in crafting and retelling authentic love stories through wedding videography. What drives me and my brand forward is delving into who my couples are, their history, the journey that lies ahead, and what sparked their love story in the first place. One of the greatest aspects of this career is hearing the many unique ways and places where couples meet, have their first date, or say “yes” to forever. Some of these stories may feel cliche, while others almost seem predestined and magical. It’s absolutely beautiful to hear so many of my couples’ origin stories.

I brand my work under the name of ACH Wedding Films, located in Chino, just 30 minutes east of Los Angeles. Much of the work that my team and I perform involves luxury high-end weddings that prioritize creative storytelling over budget services. We typically view ourselves as a boutique wedding studio that places our couples’ needs first, emphasizing quality over quantity. That’s why we only take on 25 couples per year. Currently, we are looking to expand our presence in destination weddings both nationally and internationally while maintaining the high standards we’ve set for ourselves.

As a creative filmmaker and adventure-seeking storyteller, this is the best industry I could ever imagine myself in.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe that, above all else, being a well-rounded individual has been the most crucial aspect of my journey. What I mean by this is that teaching yourself multiple skills, whether it’s graphic design, photography, video editing, or even woodworking, makes you a valuable asset to yourself and others. Value equals opportunity, which in turn leads to success.

Another skill that’s just as important is communication, specifically the ability to connect with strangers. This is extremely important in the wedding industry because, as a vendor, you work with many skilled people whom you have never met before. To be successful, you need to immediately communicate common goals and work as a team to achieve them. This model applies to virtually any profession and is often the main indicator of whether you are hired or not.

Finally, having strong financial skills is a talent that ensures long-term success. This includes making smart purchases that increase your value and income, as well as finding creative ways to generate income with the money you already have (passive income).

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My wife, Sasha, has played a pivotal role in shaping my journey forward by reminding me to understand my worth, respect my mental and physical health, and never allow ego to dictate my business practices. Everyone experiences moments when they might consider turning back, feeling that the destination is not worth the challenging journey toward their goals. During such difficult moments, it has always been Sasha who guided me back to the right path and kept me pushing forward. Behind every successful individual is someone who helped them get there; find that person for yourself.
