Meet Alexander Miller

We recently connected with Alexander Miller and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexander, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

Growing up all over the world in places such as Angola, Africa and Perth, Australia have shown me a very different side of life. I try to be understanding of people and where they come from or what they might be going through on a deeper level beyond the surface. I try my best to stick by the old saying “treat others as you want to be treated”.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My brand is called Present Moment Photographs. I focus on travel, hiking, and nature photography. The reason I named it “Present Moment” is because I believe in the power of the present moment. Landscape photography has opened my eyes to the world and the many amazing things. I used to think that Arizona was just a desert. Still, photography showed me how many unique and amazing places there are, which I know I would have only visited or even known about without seeking an experience through a lens. Photography and the present moment are unique because of the ability of a camera to capture an image in a fraction of a second. That same camera can also capture one image or snapshot of time as a long exposure over minutes. Weirdly, the ability of a camera to capture a moment over different variations of time shows that the present moment always exists, especially when paying attention. My photography sets me apart because I always seek something new to photograph, even in familiar locations. As I mentioned, photography has pushed my boundaries of exploring beyond what is found in a typical Google search. I capture unique perspectives that are a little off the beaten path in my photography. I also add some foreground elements to all my images to add depth.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Perseverance – Never giving up is important, even when things seem down.
2. Passion – Doing something that I not only enjoy but love doing, makes it a lot easier to get out there and do it.
3. Trying new things – Getting outdoors and being in the world was huge in helping me hone in on my skills.

Overall, I would say trial and error is the best way to learn and grow and eventually get better. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

The past few months I have really been honing in on perfecting and growing my website presence. A lot of my focus is on social media but I am shifting to spend a bit more time on my site. This includes the design and layout, writing more blogs with helpful and useful information, and creating a wider variety of prints to sell.
