We recently connected with Alexander Reilly Fay and have shared our conversation below.
Alexander Reilly, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
At 25, running marketplaces demands both grit and vision, and this resilience has deep roots in family. From his parents, he’s learned the value of hard work and persistence, witnessing firsthand how they navigated challenges with determination. His grandparents, with their stories of enduring tougher times, have shown him the power of patience and resourcefulness. His brothers provide constant support, pushing him to grow and adapt, reminding him that resilience is often a collective effort, built from the strength of family bonds. Together, these influences have shaped him into someone who faces adversity head-on.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At Unite Worldwide, Inc., I organize vibrant farmers markets that serve as community hubs for local businesses and unique artisan goods across Florida. What excites me most is seeing the direct connection between small-scale businesses and the community they nourish, creating an experience that’s as much about supporting local businesses as it is about fostering a sense of togetherness. We also host soccer tournaments and other events, blending food, culture, and sports to bring people from all walks of life together.
What makes our markets special is the diversity of vendors and attendees. Every event is a chance to discover something new, whether it’s a small-batch jam or a handcrafted item, while enjoying live music and great company. We’re always evolving, with upcoming expansions planned for more locations, and we’re seeking to attract sponsors to further enhance the events. It’s a dynamic environment where community, creativity, and entrepreneurship thrive, and I’m proud to be at the helm of it.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I am still just starting my journey haha. Three qualities that are most impactful in my journey have been adaptability, relationship-building, and perseverance.
Adaptability: In the world of farmers markets and events, things change constantly—weather, vendor availability, or even unexpected trends. Being adaptable has helped me navigate these shifts and still make each event a success. My advice is to embrace change rather than resist it. Stay curious, and be willing to pivot when things don’t go as planned.
Relationship-building: Building strong relationships with vendors, sponsors, and the community is key. Networking and maintaining genuine connections allow for better collaboration and long-term success. I’d recommend getting to know people on a personal level and being consistent with follow-up. Trust and loyalty take time to build but are invaluable.
Perseverance: Organizing large-scale events can be daunting, with setbacks and challenges at every turn. But pushing through those moments is where growth happens. For anyone starting out, I’d say expect challenges and remember that persistence is what separates those who succeed from those who give up too soon.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I turn to a few key strategies that help me reset and regain focus. Meditation is one of the first things I do—it allows me to center myself, calm my thoughts, and find clarity in the midst of chaos. Even just a few minutes of mindfulness can make a huge difference.
Going to the gym is another outlet for stress. Physical exercise helps me channel that overwhelming energy into something productive, whether it’s lifting weights or doing cardio. It’s a great way to clear my mind and feel physically refreshed.
Reading is my way of escaping and gaining perspective. Whether it’s fiction or something motivational, reading takes me out of my own head and helps me see things in a different light. Praying is also essential for me. It gives me a sense of peace and grounding, reminding me to trust the process and let go of what’s out of my control.
Lastly, walking or running outdoors is a great way to reflect while staying active. There’s something about being outside that helps me reset mentally and feel more connected to the present moment. My advice? Find a balance between these outlets, and use whichever one speaks to you in the moment to recharge and refocus.
