We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexander Trombino. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexander below.
Alexander, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Life. Some people say Life imitates art and art imitates Life. For me life inspires my creativity from books like (Dragonriders of Pern by Anne and Todd McCaffrey) to movies like ( Frank Herbert’s Dune, Ridley Scott’s Bladerunner, and J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings) or even TV shows (Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek, J. Michael Straczynski’s Babylon 5 and Hajime Yatate’s Ronin Warriors). So many worlds for all of us to get lost into when we need a bit of an escape or a different journey. I find and observe that the world around us inspires my muse. I am a fantasy geek, a gamer, and a Sci-fi nerd. I have worlds full of stories that I want to tell and share with everyone. My name is Alexander Trombino and I am a novelist. The words will forever dance across the page as I look for what adventure my muse has in store for me. Please join me on a journey of discovery of creative writing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have always enjoyed writing stories and adventures even as early as elementary school. I would turn those stories in as class assignment all the way through high school. Just over thirty years ago during that time I had begun writing poems started a short story that would grow over time. During high school I was able to write over 150 poems which I was able to get a few published in school newsletters and poetry collections. In 2014 a was able to Self-Publish my first poetry book called “Bag of Lost Marbles” which is available through Barnes and Noble as an e-book. I also looked into Self-Publishing my first novel through www.thebookpatch.com.

Meanwhile I turned a short story into something far larger than I could have dreamed. It grew from a short story into a multi-page outline and evolved into my first fantasy series. The Valdarian Series: Crystal Quest is book one of many that hope to share with the world.
(Ancient Crystal Shards are scattered across the realms of Valdar, Ang’usha and Theris. Within these high magical fantasy realms forces of darkness and chaos are seeking out ancient items of power for absolute control of the realm of Valdar and its future. In order to maintain the balance of life across these realms the heroes are sent upon a quest for the fallen pieces of the Crystal Shards. The journey of the Valdarian Series starts here with the Crystal Quest.)
The Valdarian Series: Crystal Quest is available for purchase for $20.00 at www.thebookpatch.com and also $20.00 as e-book from most e-book stores like Barnes and Noble.

I am working on Book Two of The Valdarian Series and hope to have it released next year in 2025. I am also working on some other stories for the world of Valdar and hope to have a website for my worlds soon. Beyond this first series I have few other worlds that I am building towards in the future.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The world may be complex but doesn’t have to feel that way. When it comes to creativity and world building that still applies. People have said it before that you write what know. Build upon what you know and what desire you want to create. For me that is worlds of fantasy inspired by the books, movies, and games I play. Sometimes it starts with a concept of drawing lines to build a map while other times it starts with a name or a list of names. I dove into my love of history and mythology to create my own worlds. Sometimes will brainstorm in a spreadsheet to build my outlines of people, places, and things I want in the world. An outline as simple as a chapter name and few key events or the people involved can be a great to start. Not everyone functions in the same way so there are many tools available to spark or aid with your muse. These are a few things that worked for me so far.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Time and writer’s block are two things that can be a challenge to any writer. Even if writing were a hobby, I would set aside time in the week to write or progress upon a project. That includes setting up an hour a day to write or brainstorm or plan out what might be next. Something as simple as concept art or music can put me in that writing mind set. I also try to plan for writing a few hours on the weekend mornings. Setting up a schedule for when to write will to help you stay on task can help get you past the blocks. It allows me to set a scene or fill in the gaps to move toward what comes next. I also visualize what I want to happen as a director would through the lens of a camera on set. Try to place your reader right in or around the action of a scene and make feel invested in the dance of your words to “Action!” Even as a part time effort toward writing, It could be easy to find maybe 10-15 hours a week to write something toward your project. Write with the passion that inspires you and you can build your own worlds in time. For now thank you for taking the time read some of my story. I hope to see you all on the adventure as we journey into of my worlds and yours. I hope to have a website for my worlds soon.
