Meet Alexandra Beck

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexandra Beck a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alexandra, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My family.

I strongly attribute my unwavering work ethic to my mom- Maxine, my dad- Kelly, and my older brother- Michael.

The 3 of them were my older role models and are my mentors for life.

My mother Maxine is an particularly impressive high power woman who took on a full time career as a medical physician as well as call work at nights. At the same time she was also a great mother who always made us perfect dinners every night and made sure Michael and I’s(my brother) lives were immersed with culture. I especially admire her pursuing a big career in a generation it was also expected for every woman to be perfect at home(which if you think about it is virtually impossible). She really held down the fort with grace and I’m so proud to have such a boss as my mother. The coolest female role model I could’ve dreamed of.

My dad is the most meticulous person I’ve ever met. He’s also the hardest working person I’ve ever met. He also knew what task was most important if there were 1000 tasks in front of him- which is something I’m still learning from him. He kept our shit organized.

My older brother since day one knew what he wanted for his career. He always gave 110 percent and it shows. He became a pediatrican at a record speed, didn’t even finish a degree before he was accepted to medical school. He also always helped me when I was struggling at homework.

So if you wanna ask where I got my worth ethic from- it’s just embedded in my DNA. My family- my people are the hardest working people I know. And they made me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hi there. My name is Alexandra Beck. I’m a girl from the middle of nowhere in Canada- and now I’m located in LA taking my music all the way. I’m a super passionate person who loves many many things-arts, athletics, the outdoors, travel.

I first fell in love with music when the first Avril Lavigne record, “Let Go” released. I remember being a little girl blasting the CD in my boombox in my room and falling in love with every single word and melody until my family told me to be quiet. I knew from that moment on that music was something special and it was meant to hold a big part of my life.

Little did I know all this time later(like 17 years) I would be in LA working with some big name producers, and upgrading my performance skills with internationally renowned heels choreographers.

I have my sexually empowering track “hit this” dropping on April 18th. It’s one of my catchiest tracks- so im so excited for the the earworms to get stuck in your head. Also my very first music video for the same song- dropping on April 30th. Some sexy choreo in a rainroom in DTLA vibes.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Vocal Training- I have taken my gift for singing to a whole other level by investing in my vocal training. It seriously is like night and day.

Attending writing camps or panels that I felt at home in. IF you don’t feel like a certain networking event resonates with you- stop going! If the people aren’t genuine or aren’t your musical vibe it will most certainly be a waste of your time. We only have so much time in our days.

Do what you love. Dating people I love, traveling to europe, and living my life to the absolute fullest has been what has inspired me to write my songs that I feel are hits the most. Not sitting at home and always being the most productive I can be.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

I no longer people please! Like seriously if someone doesn’t like me- I most certainly will not be dimming my lit so they do. I now love me most and will not be participating in anything mean-spirited or that disrupts my peace. Most people who try to dim our lights are projecting their insecurities- and us standing strong in our truths shows these folks the work they need to do for themselves.

I feel like I have become a better daughter, friend, lover, etc. since I stopped people pleasing.
