Meet Alexandra Colchado-scott

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexandra Colchado-scott. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alexandra, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

For me creativity is built on the influx of trial and error and not being afraid to fail. What a lot of people don’t see behind the scenes is testing new building methods, trialing double stuff balloon colors to create new colors, and really taking the time to make builds on our own time to create our own styles. Our community is so wonderful and is just filled with really talented artist that really inspire and help each other out.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My business as a balloon artist and event stylist in Houston, Texas has been an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling journey. I have always had a passion for creativity and bringing joy to others, and being able to do that through my art is truly a dream come true. Creating beautiful event decor for clients has allowed me to showcase my talents and skills, while also making people happy and creating lasting memories for special occasions. In addition to running my business, I am also a full-time homeschool mom, and balancing both roles has been challenging but incredibly rewarding. Being able to work from home and have the flexibility to spend time with my daughter while pursuing my passion is a blessing. I am grateful for the opportunity to do what I love while also being present for my family.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

As a business owner and full-time mom, there are three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey: time management, adaptability, and self-care.

Time management is crucial in balancing the demands of running a business and taking care of a family. Being able to effectively prioritize tasks, set realistic goals, and delegate when necessary has been essential in managing both aspects of my life. To improve on this skill, I recommend utilizing tools such as to-do lists, calendars, and time-blocking techniques to stay organized and focused.

Adaptability is another important quality that has been instrumental in navigating the challenges of being a business owner and a mom. Things don’t always go as planned, and being able to adapt to unforeseen circumstances or changes in the business or family dynamic is key to maintaining balance and moving forward.

Lastly, self-care is crucial in order to sustain the demanding roles of a business owner and full-time mom. Taking care of oneself physically, mentally, and emotionally is essential for maintaining motivation, energy, and overall well-being. It’s important to prioritize self-care activities such as exercise, relaxation, hobbies, and spending time with loved ones. Remember that you cannot pour from an empty cup, so taking care of yourself is not only beneficial for you but also for those around you.

For those who are early in their journey as business owners and full-time parents, my advice is to take a breath and give yourself some grace to figure out what works for you. Remember that it’s okay to ask for help, take breaks when needed, and seek support from others.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I turn to prayer and give my worries to God. I take the time to fully surrender my fears and anxieties, trusting that God’s plan for me is far greater than my own. By releasing control and allowing God to guide me, I am able to navigate my challenges with faith and confidence. It is a powerful reminder that I am not alone in my struggles and that I am always supported by a higher power. This act of surrendering to God’s will ensures that my journey moving forward is aligned with His divine purpose for me.
