We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alexandra Faith . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alexandra below.
Hi Alexandra , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is REAL and it sucks. The only real way I’ve found to combat it is to create! Creating is in our DNA as artists and its important to use it as a tool to fuel our passion.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a certified makeup artist in Atlanta, GA.
I have the amazing opportunity to help people look their best on their wedding day, become a monster for a Halloween party, or by creating a character on set.
I love each environment for different reasons, but if I had to choose a favorite it would probably be set. I LOVE the atmosphere on tv/film and photography sets. Usually it’s a room full of creative people just doing what they love in order to create magic and that’s my favorite place to be.
Another fun thing I get to do is help people with their skin, hair and wellness issues. I am partnered with Modern Nature ~aka MONAT~ which has completely changed my life for the better. Not only is it a company that has products that actually work, it’s a whole life style adjustment. It’s really opened my eyes to so much and it’s taught me how to be a better person and successful business owner. It basically business school in a box. And I’m obsessed.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My first wedding trial taught me SO MUCH. When I walked in to her house, it was 1000 degrees. So makeup was sliding all over her face because of sweat. I didn’t have my ring light yet, and she lived in a really dark house. So my colors were all off. What a nightmare. Needless to say I didn’t get the job, but I learned that you NEVER touch someone’s face until the environment is right.
Utilize technology and social media to your advantage as a business owner. It doesn’t matter how many followers you have, it just matters the quality of the content you’re creating. It should draw people in, entertain or educate and you have to be constant. Constancy is key.
Then definitely the moment I joined MONAT. This company makes your mental and emotional health first priority. They understand that if you aren’t pouring into yourself you can’t possibly pour into anyone else. Working with a company that genuinely loves its people and values their well-being is almost unheard of. I’m so thankful that I was able to learn the importance of self love while also making money from my phone.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
As I mentioned before imposter syndrome is very real and it can destroy lots of hard work. I have been dealing with this quiet a lot lately but I have found that making lists helps me, and also creating daily. It’s a must. Whether it’s reaching out for jobs or potentials, creating a look, filming a real or editing photos… it’s gotta be something. My friend and business partner told me a few months ago “just 1% better everyday…” and that’s how I’ve been living my life. I also have to spend A LOT of time with Jesus. I feel so much better after giving my worries to God and he’s gracious to me all the time in response.
