Meet Alexandra Forgues

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexandra Forgues a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alexandra, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

A little goes a long way ! I know this may sound simple, but it’s shocking how true that statement can be. Many think that to keep your creativity alive, especially in seasons where work might seem slow or not how you would like it to be optimally, that you need to go out and big with your art at all times. I believe that doing something creative everyday, regardless of how big or small the gesture, it will make such a difference long term. You need to see which art calls to you and dabble in a new and different thing all the time. Look outside of your comfort zone. Creativity is needed everywhere if you look for it ; you just need to sprinkle it on whatever task you’re accomplishing !

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am lucky enough to do what I love professionally as an actress. I have worked on many short films, mini series, mainly in the action/romance genre and, although I have loved the experience, I would love to work further on thrillers, suspense, horror projects.

Also, as of soon, I will be working both out of Los Angeles and Montreal, Canada and am looking forward to exploring the sides of both industries. The stage will always hold a place in my heart seeing as I have been on it for most of my youth, however, I am currently working more in camera based medium.

This is an exciting stage to my career seeing as I still get to explore what resonates more with me personally. Nevertheless, I am excited to share upcoming projects and will continue to do so on my public platforms.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Resilience is for sure the most important one. Regardless of the amount of rejection you receive, you cannot let yourself be affect by it, especially since most of the time, it is absolutely nothing personal. You just need to push past it and get back on tracks with what you want. It is easy to get off tracks if the resilience is not there.
Positivity and kindness are also such an important part of it. I was raised to think that everything will happen in good time and to just remain as positive and kind to others as possible. Positivity is contagious and other can see when someone brings a certain energy into a room; we notice those who are kind to us.
Lastly, malleability is the most important. Any artists will tell you that you need to be flexible and have a great sense of adaptation. Things are ever changing in this industry, and you need to adapt quickly or you will be pushed to the side.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When feeling overwhelmed, I tend to turn inwards. I need to spend time on my own in order to understand where does the issue stems from and need to think how can I, either remove myself from the anxiety inducing situation or how can I act towards it to remove the stress. I am a strong believer that what ever mindset we choose, it will affect how we see the things going on in our lives. If I feel overwhelmed, I will meditate, go on a hike, spend time doing things that helps recenter myself and find solutions. There is always a solution if you look long enough.
