Meet Alexandra Grace

We recently connected with Alexandra Grace and have shared our conversation below.

Alexandra, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

To be honest, I’m still working on both. I’ve always been more comfortable in the background, and I am a dangerous combination of perfectionist and procrastinator. It’s hard to be perfect when you’re not great at planning. However, I’ve grown so much in all categories since I started writing. I contribute this to two things: 1) book publishing and marketing forces you to put yourself out there, and 2) I’ve found my community. Writing and the people I’ve met along the way make me so happy. With the help of my new author and reader friends, I’ve discovered so much about myself, and they inspire and motivate me every day,

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am an independent author, meaning I am responsible for all aspects of publishing my books. After writing, I contract with editors and cover designers, promote and distribute my books. I do everything from A to Z to get my book out into the world.

I write sweet and steamy, closed door, contemporary romance that gives happily ever afters to healing veterans. My profound respect for our military personnel and veterans makes bringing awareness to them with fictional characters very rewarding.

On October 1, 2024, I released my seventh novel and hope to add three more in 2025. For release in 2026, I’m also helping to organize a multi-author series with some indie author friends.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

A love for creative writing is a must for any fiction author. Patience is also needed since very few of us have instant success. It’s an endless grind that you have to do because you love it, not because you want to make money or be famous. The same goes for those wanting to be traditionally published. The process can be excruciatingly long. Social media marketing skills are very important in both authoring paths. It also helps to have an established following before you publish. Work on making authentic connections with other authors, readers, and partners.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

Ironically, the longer I work at growing my author platform, the more I struggle with imposter syndrome. I’m still learning about writing and the industry and want to continue improving with every book. While supporting and cheering on my fellow indie authors is one of my favorite things to do, as someone who struggles with confidence, it’s hard not to compare my journey with theirs. It’s a dangerous pastime and has a serious effect on my writing. I’m constantly working on not letting it take over and to continue making progress.
