We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexandra Martinez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandra, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I grew up as a single child for 8 years. Although I didn’t have siblings, I had a lot of family. I grew up with the love and warmth of not just cousins but my grandparents. I feel very privileged to have grown up with them as I watched and learned what it means to be generous and kind everyday. Both of my grandmothers always put others before themselves. They showed me what’s it like to love without expecting anything in return. My little self always watched how they made sure everyone was fed before them. Weather it’s a stranger or a close family member, they always showed respect, love, and generosity.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Latina UGC creator and influencer based in the bay area, California. I had a very hard time adapting to the biggest change in my life which was to move from Peru to the United states at the age of 8. So, many years later I started creating videos on youtube and expressing myself through my content. Although it started with youtube, it now has diversified to tiktok, instagram, threads and so on!
I am very passionate about using my creativity every day and I am very grateful that a hobby I started has turned into an amazing side hustle. I still create my own content for fun, but now I also work with various brands to help their vision come to life! I do a lot of User Generated Content for brands behind the scenes as well as sponsorship collaborations. I have had the amazing opportunity to work with brands I never thought possible. I attended a few brand events and I am excited to attend another one this March. I am also going to be sharing some new series across my social media platforms. I am looking forward to continuing to build this little side business, and to get to make new connections and especially: represent my Peruvian community.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
There are a lot of qualities that I believe are impactful in my journey. Discipline and consistency are so important. Being a creator goes beyond the highlights that are portrayed on social media. It truly takes so much work with no return in the beginning, you have to be passionate about what you’re doing so that you can stay disciplined and therefore consistent. Another important factor is definitely letting others thinking what they want to think and letting that be. Putting yourself out there is hard, there is a lot of outside noise, and staying true to yourself is so important.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
As I started creating content more and more I realized that the most impactful thing my parents did for me is let me create. From a young age, I was always very curious. I loved painting, drawing, taking photos, etc. My dad bought a old vintage camera and I remember that being my frist exposure to filming anything. He would film at home videos, and so one day I took it upon myself to start filming and learning on my own how to do it. Similarly to when I started making actual videos, I took it upon myself to google and search how to upload, edit, make thumbnails, etc. I feel grateful everyday for the freedom that I had to be creative growing up.
