We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexandra Meredith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
I’ve dealt with haters, bullying, and naysayers my entire life. It can be hard to persist when someone openly dislikes you. However, it’s important to remember that not everyone who disagrees with you is a hater. The first step is to determine whether they’re truly a hater or simply expressing a differing opinion.
I come across as strong, but my biggest weakness is being overly sensitive to feedback and criticism. I actively work on this because when you can’t handle feedback, it hinders your growth and improvement.
With a large following on social media, everything I post is subject to hate comments. Ignoring them isn’t always easy, but I choose to surround myself with people who encourage and support me. It hurts even more when jealousy comes from a friend. But understand this: someone’s jealousy stems from their own struggles, not yours. Most jealousy is rooted in feelings of inadequacy.
Every day, I strive to lead with compassion. I recognize that someone who spreads hate is likely dealing with unresolved issues. Showing kindness and compassion in response is a power move.
You were put on this planet for a reason. If someone feels threatened by your light, it’s a sign that you’re doing something right. Surround yourself with people who uplift you.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is forgiveness. Ever hear the saying, “Don’t rain on my parade”? Forgive those who do, but also forgive yourself for forgetting your umbrella.
It’s okay to react to haters—after all, we’re only human. We’re not all built with the same pain tolerance, emotional endurance, or maturity. This is all part of your journey. Keep going, and you’ll keep growing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I thrive on doing a lot at once—it’s hard for me to sit still. I’m constantly expanding my toolbox because, at just 28, I’m eager to explore all the opportunities life has to offer. By day, I work as a Plastic Surgeon’s Assistant, and I’m on track to becoming a Medical Esthetician by next year. Skin care is my passion. I’ve taken online classes through Harvard Medical and earned numerous certificates to help launch my skin care career.
In my free time, I’m a writer. I’ve completed my first novel, which is set to launch in 2025. It explores overcoming mental health struggles, trauma, and PTSD. Writing has always been my way to cope, escape, and transform anxiety into something meaningful.
I also share my thoughts on my blog at www.alexandrameredith.com. Follow me on Instagram @alexmeredith_ for fun updates and news about the upcoming release of my novel, Unbreakable.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Honesty, Kindness, and Responsibility.
Honesty is a fundamental value in my life. My mother recently shared a profound insight with me: “Speaking the truth is an adventure.” That sentiment resonates deeply. So often, we invest time and energy crafting falsehoods, fearing the consequences of truth. Yet, honesty has a remarkable way of surprising us—its transparency often yields unexpected and positive outcomes. Truthfulness is not only courageous but also undeniably empowering.
Kindness, rooted in compassion and empathy, fosters meaningful connections and cultivates a supportive environment. Demonstrating genuine care for others creates a ripple effect, encouraging positivity and mutual respect in both personal and professional interactions.
Above all, taking responsibility is paramount. Embracing accountability and owning your actions not only builds trust but also reflects maturity and dependability. Being someone others can consistently rely on is one of the highest compliments one can receive.
Humility plays an essential role in personal growth. Acknowledging your mistakes and learning from them fortifies your character. Celebrate your successes, but approach setbacks with grace. Rather than dwelling on failure, use it as an opportunity to reset, recalibrate, and move forward with resilience.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Leaving Los Angeles.
Ten years ago, I moved to Los Angeles to attend FIDM, hoping to discover my purpose and carve out a meaningful path in life. A decade has passed, and while LA has been an incredible chapter, I’ve reached a point where change feels necessary. I once believed I’d call this city home forever, but lately, I’ve realized that staying here may not align with my ultimate dream of becoming an Esthetician.
Originally from Charlotte, NC, I’ve always had my family in the Carolinas as a steady anchor. Los Angeles has shaped me in profound ways—it has broken me down, built me up, and molded me into the woman I am proud to be today. However, life on the East Coast has begun to call me back, offering opportunities too significant to ignore.
I’ve been accepted into an Esthetician program in North Carolina and am planning to make the move home in 2025. While the thought of leaving LA is daunting, I find comfort in knowing that this city, with all its memories and milestones, will always be here.
I’m deeply grateful for the friendships I’ve forged and the experiences that have defined my journey in Los Angeles. These stories will stay with me forever, but I am ready to embrace this new chapter with excitement and courage.
Stay tuned—there’s so much more to come!
